    Attic hoist / elevator design

thats a good shout Ive been reading about the design of the trolleys, they use 3 wheels: its possible they don't need to be cupped part of me thinks this is the best direction, part of me thinks its over engineering and I should stick with the u channel...

    Attic hoist / elevator design

yeah I've had a look on YouTube and Ive taken inspiration from a few I did think about dumb waiters and I think they all work with a permananent lift shaft, which doesn't work in my application as cars will be parked below. I probably need some flip stops or something that can be used as safety...

    Attic hoist / elevator design

I have only 550mm, and its not adjacent to wall, so I think it needs to be bespoke

    Attic hoist / elevator design

yeah those look good thanks. The only issue I can see is that the clearance at the back (that would allow me to bolt it to wall) might cause issues with my other needed function to roll on back face of channel (as well as front) - I like your idea to contact seller and ask about larger wheels...

    Attic hoist / elevator design

I dont think there is enough clearance for a bolt I like your idea of welding that little shoe onto the back of the channel best, thanks (y)

    Attic hoist / elevator design

It's not for me, it's a retired couple and they don't want to be carrying boxes up ladders, or steering platforms into little holes in the ceiling. I think they will be looking for maximum safety and convenience, whereas us workshop types might be happy just using a cargo net hooked up to an...

    Attic hoist / elevator design

I see only needs to take 100kg, but I will design for 250kg for future proofing

    Attic hoist / elevator design

yeah I understand your point I have found some metal rollers that work in unichannel that are rated up to 250kg, the rollers have a flat surface so I see no reason why they would have an issue running on the back edge I also saw on website that somebody asked of you can fit a bolt head in...

    Attic hoist / elevator design

I can't have legs as a car parks directly underneath it

    Attic hoist / elevator design

Why does it need to be under ridge? From cad it looks like I have loads of clearance and could shift it closer to eaves... Or am I missing something?....

    Attic hoist / elevator design

Hmm, that's a good point about the forces. You don't think the rollers will be happy pushing up against the back face of the U channel? Never heard of alimak hoists but after looking I can see that's pretty similar set of design constraints. I want to keep the runners flush to wall so not sure...

    Attic hoist / elevator design

Hi All, I'm working on a design for an attic hoist / elevator that will be used for getting boxes etc up and down. We have installed a loft ladder already and it's good for walking up but not great for carrying stuff up. I've done a bit of research and it doesn't seem like there are any kits on...

Is a multi function workshop a flying submarine?

Hi Brian, I've just read through / revisited this thread again and wanted to highlight that the advice you gave above is spot on - very similar to what many others were saying too, but I liked your bit about 'planning ahead for next evolution while already using the space' instead of big bang...

Is a multi function workshop a flying submarine?

Hi Ian, Yeah I can understand you being a bit baffled by it, it looks a bit like one of those sterile YouTube channels and you wonder if they ever do any woodworking 😅 There are three reasons for it in my case: I don't do woodworking very much - the odd weekend here and there when I have a...

Is a multi function workshop a flying submarine?

Here is an update on my goals for a multi use room. I have the workshop working well, I've just installed a little office area, and I am almost ready with the fitness zone. I've also found that my office chair is comfy enough to sit and chill, read, listen to music. So out of the 4 original...

Mitre Saw Station - Site Work

Thanks. Some good ideas in there. It still feels a lot more workshop than site use though. I think I'm going to have a go at a design.

I like this way of working 🙂

Mitre Saw Station - Site Work

Probably. Optimum position for timber when doing lots of repeat cuts on long lengths is exactly where those supports are. Sometimes I stack wood on the floor there, its in the way a little bit but it's so fast to load the saw from there.
