friction paste? non setting glue? does such a product exist

agreed not a great product, the similar tracer branded product looks a lot better. very gimmicky, seems like it could and should be a great little tool but just misses the mark and becomes near enough useless

friction paste? non setting glue? does such a product exist

I was given a saker scribe tool / deep pencil set (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Saker-Multi-function-Construction-Carpenters-Woodworking/dp/B09W8RC9FP/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=saker+scribe+tool&qid=1705010838&sr=8-6) for christmas, looked great, but a few moments playing with it and you could see it just...

    The screw up fairy…

nothing worse than damaging a tool straight out of the box first thing I did when I got a multitool was to try out the metal cutting blade, put a big screw in a scrap of wood and cut it flush, took out half the teeth on the blade, hadn't realised they do nails but nut screws, didn't make that...

    The screw up fairy…

cutting up some osb today working on a picnic bench, first cut, off the edge, fine, measured for the second cut, completely failed to overhand the cut, made a ridiculous gouge across the table top

"Oily Glue" - is this a breakthrough, or just more Superglue?

look on youtube, very common technique, essentially you are making double sided tape by sticking painter's tape back to back. pretty strong side to side but pretty weak when you need to seperate apart, so good for template routing etc

"Oily Glue" - is this a breakthrough, or just more Superglue?

I'm told that cigerette ash (and one would assume wood ash too?) works very well with superglue, something to do with the carbon content

    Dehumidifiers

strange how, say, 30 years ago the conversation around conserving energy was much less and yet everything was manufactured with an off switch, now we are all, rightly, concerened with carbon footprints etc etc with barely an off switch to be found

    Joint cutting guide tool

I think I inherited one of those when my father died, I seem to remember the same combination of wedges and pegs. decided is was too fiddly and complicated with too many bits to loose, it seemed like a crutch for some basic jointing skills

    Question for the electricians

what a shoddy job from a proffessional

    Question for the electricians

not an electrician, but I am a qualified PAT tester, and if that were a plug with the wires (internal insulation) exposed it would fail, on that logic I would agree with your first instinct that the outer layer should be clamped. who has told you otherwise?

    Bosch 12V circular saw

with limited personal experience I've always got the impression that circular saws are really power hungry and if you can you'll get a better experience with a cable, if not a good 18v model and a large capacity battery. I inherited an older model parkside (lidl) 18v saw and using it recently...

    Quick shed build

are you looking for best budget option, best all round product? for the roofing I like the look of the panels that have insulation sandwiched between cladding underneath and metal roofing on top. I'm sure you pay a premium but the saving in time must go a good way to balance it out?

Best grab adhesive for MDF to MDF

definately rule out grip fill, it takes an incredable amount of time to cure. If it can be done flat I'd do it with PVA, I don't think that the CA glue combination would be great unless you are working with very light strips, a panel of mdf has a fair weight to it to be held vertically

In praise of an own brand - Screwfix copper pipe cutter

I used a magnusson tape measure years ago and found it to be absolute junk, kind of wrote off the brand in my mind because of that. more recently I've used a few magnusson tools that have been much more impressive. I don't think any brand is consistently good across the range, and more so...

    3 pronged water meter key

a search on amazon for water meter key gives a lot of options, possibly something that works, the closest I can see is a socket that goes over a triangle, not sure that that is what you want? I wouldn't try anything makeshift, if it isn't strong enough it'll break and you'll have no water full...
