    B&D urban myth?

I think that sounds fairly reasonable for DIY grade, realistically 30 hrs of drilling is a thousand odd jobs. I'm not sure that the majority of budget end tools would stand up for 30 hrs of use, certainly wouldn't assume more than 3 hrs of use from a silverline powertool

    Phone thread

I agree, most likely a scam. That said, if it were legit, it would be clear which company it is from and you could google for trustworthiness. Still think it is a scam though

    we are wrong

I was hoping for something easily done at home, thought it might be levered up on some posts or similar. Definately like the idea of ground level roofing though, ticks all the health and safety boxes

Flat head screw supplier - am i being daft?

having not looked for them recently I hadn't realised that were hard to find, or at least not commonplace anymore. assumed that screwfix would do them, but it seems not. awful to use with a combi drill so I guess they've just fallen out of common use

    Makita MT range info

my limited understanding of them is that they are all corded, essentially older makita models in red housing, and possibly not made to quite the same standard as makita blue. I was also looking at the makita mt ROS, seems like good value, but have also heard a lot of good things about erbauer as...

What to do about shed rot?

I would certainly raise it up, and run a dehumidifier if you can get power to it? As to the next step, it would depend on how degraded the wood is IMO, and how sound the structure feels, essentially is it in good enough condition to spend money on?

    Amazon versus Screwfix

the real money saving items (no claim about quality there) are shipped from china, takes forever to get to you, but cost a fraction of the uk price. The ridiculous savings seem to have stopped in the last couple of years though, I remember not that long ago buying 100 cable ties, delivered, for...

    Bookshelves installation

I'd say the base is the best option, present that with the pros and cons and see if they are willing to pay for it

maybe this Jack the Giant Killer (1962 film) - Wikipedia from the write up " When Jack is alone with Elaine, she reveals her witch form to him. With Peter and Sigurd's aid, Jack breaks free and smashes Elaine's mirror reflection, breaking the spell. " on you tube but pretty low res

    Multitool

I've got the dewalt 18v, can't fault it (DIY use), It has easily interchangable blades with a quick release, and the speed is controlled from the trigger, so very much grab and go, it was an expensive item for the amount of use it gets, but there have been plenty of jobs that I couldn't have...

    excess deaths around 1928?

I think I was definately wrong on my idea that it would have taken a month (in fact I was thinking it probably took longer), working backwards from this graph, it maybe 20 days...

    excess deaths around 1928?

A week? I thought boat travel between the UK and US was a good month, maybe I'm way off on that, one of those ideas that stick in your mind as facts and don't get challanged.

bbc so i assumed it was uk, now not so sure

    excess deaths around 1928?

seems odd that the UK and the US would both suffer from the same flu epidemic, I'm assuming that the majority of travel would be by boat so you wouldn't have thought it would happen in both places at the same time?

    excess deaths around 1928?

so, highest excess deaths since WW2 according to the BBC today, horrible, but not unexpected. They showed a chart showing spikes in the first and second world war, understandable, what I can't understand is a slightly smaller, but still significant spike around 1928. Can anyone explain this...
