Help me out of this situation! Broken insert

yeah, did think that might be one benifit of the additional nut, save finding exactly the right bolt, also I can see that by being able to keep the pressure on with a second spanner whilst unscrewing the whole assembly could be a benifit, but that seems to be something I've added into the mix...

Help me out of this situation! Broken insert

well, I have to say I still would have thought that the bolt head being tightened firmly against the fixing would do the same thing, but I'll bow to experience on this one. thanks for trying explain though

Help me out of this situation! Broken insert

I dont quite understand this method, why do you need the nut? if you just tightened the bolt in firmly right up to the bolt head would you not achieve the same thing? your method would allow the use of two spanners, one on the nut keeping a firm clockwise pressure, whilst the other spanner...

Amazon seems to be getting more and more expensive

the joy of 'hunt the parcel', last summer a neighbour of mine came to me with a picture, provided by amazon / the delivery company, of her parcel, shoved under a random garden chair, did I know where it was? After about 5 minutes of headscratching, zooming into a blurry picture to identify a...

    Middle of Lidl starts today

I wish lidl's non food stuff was available for longer, and was restocked, especially at the moment, the idea of a thursday scrum for the last pack of drill bits seems a little bit 'non essential'

Lovely multi drawer pallet wood project popped up on my YT recommended

that makes sense, but hadn't it already been passed through a P/T, should it not be flat already?

Lovely multi drawer pallet wood project popped up on my YT recommended

the thought of putting pallet wood, with the potential lost nails, imbedded gravel, toxic treatment etc etc through a P/T makes me cringe somewhat. My source of free wood is wooden beds that people are forever giving away on freecycle

Amazon seems to be getting more and more expensive

amazon vs high street, normally a lot cheaper IMO, I think that is where the reputation for price is formed

he seems to be doing a lot of belt sanding across the grain, I was always under the impression sanding should go with the grain, am i missing something?

    8x4 sheet cutting table

seems like with the various limitations on size, weight etc you'd be better off just building a new table. certainly worth costing up that vs the cost of making a sacrificial extension to the top

    8x4 sheet cutting table

If you've tried it before you probably know the pros and cons better than I do, but I wouldn't have though it would take up too much space cut in half and hinged together with gaffer tape

    8x4 sheet cutting table

maybe I'm misunderstanding the problem but why not use a sheet of insulation board as a sacrificial top?

New logo or lets house the homeless veterans

Irony with something like the RBL rebrand is if they'd run an open appeal for logos they'd have been inundated with images, no doubt giving valuable publicity to students or fledgling marketing firms, and costing the charity nothing (aside from the obvious cost of paying someone to sort through...

Cleaning / caring Saw Blades and Router bits

you might want to look at this thread, which seems to have evolved into a discussion on the virtues of a 'rag in a can' as a method of lubricating hand tools Using engines oil on tools

    Reciprocating saw on paving slabs?

Yes, support is everything when cutting anything fragile. I keep on meaning to get a 8x4 sheet of insulation to use as a base for cutting with the circular saw, essentially being the same principal as cutting on the lawn

The irritating world of discount codes (yandles or ffx - any working ones?)

Discounts always seem a bit of a scam (I use that term fairly loosely), I always think of the sofas that are advertised as 80% off, but the listed RRP has only ever been offered in one store for the minimum amount time so they don't get sued. I will of course get my head turned by something...
