Single phase motor wiring - help!

Ideally you need the wiring diagram for the updated machine. I'm surprised that Axminster have not supplied this. Connecting it as before to the blue and brown terminals will give you a working machine, but one just as likely to burn out again. .No doubt you have paid extra for this new feature...

    Sold Hammer A3-31 (not working)

You have my sympathy, as that is a very tidy machine, Felder must be charging an arm and a leg for the motor and control gear for it not to be viable to repair. - compared to buying an equivalent planer. I can easily understand that you now , just want shot of the problem. though this will...

    Broken NVR Switch

I would echo what @eribaMotters has said and just replace like for like. After all there are 6 wires shown connected in the photo. if you go for the 4 pin option this will obviously leave two unconnected. Although these KJD switches are common on Chinese machines they don't seem to last long...

For Sale 16 Tropical Hardwood Blocks for Sale

I think that if they were all cut into bowl turning blanks then you could easily get this amount for them, possibly more. Especially as you have some of the thicker sizes here. I always feel it is a bit of a stretch to call anything 50mm and under a bowl blank - more a deep platter than anything...

    Parquet blocks

You will get a straighter cut on a saw bench, but it will be a lot safer to use the bandsaw, Also, you have to take into account the kerf of the saw so you won't get 22mm out. Probably nearer 20mm if you use the saw bench and a tad over this if using a bandsaw. You could use a made up wooden...

How do I know if a quote for work is reasonable?

This sounds like classic difference between a Quote and an Estimate. A quote being the actual price for the job. And, it pays for the tradesman to list what is actually being paid for here, so there can be no cause for disagreement. An Estimate, however is a ball-park figure and the final...

My son, when he finished his carpentry/joinery course at college was given, along with the other students., the Faithfull planes, gauge and square. along with a set of Irwin /Marples chisels and a Spear and Jackson hardpoint saw. He found no fault with the quality of the tools and it was a...

    Engineered stone banned in Australia

I'm not quite sure that I fully understand what is being reported here. If fine silica particles, cause silicosis, then surely working any stone containing silica will cause the same problem. I don't see what bearing the artificial nature of the stone has on the rise in illness. I would have...

Child labour - when did you start you kids off in DIY

It is interesting what your kids do manage to pick up. To my continued embarrassment my wife often recounts the story of my son , who was then, at that stage where he could string together understandable sentences, ( He is now in his 30's ) . He was sitting on the floor in our downstairs...

Child labour - when did you start you kids off in DIY

A colleague, who used to have the workshop, adjacent to my old one, used to work for his father, along with his two brothers during their school holidays. Their main complaint, was that they were never paid for the work done, :) However, it didn't stop any of them pursuing woodwork as a career.

Advice on the right tool to cut small intricate items out of wood

A jewellers saw and a lot of skill - being Asian might also help  Alternatively a scroll saw ( basically a motorised fret saw ) This will allow you to concentrate on holding and guiding the wood rather than trying to keep a jewellers saw running truly vertical and making it follow a line.

How to vent a fitted wardrobe

I have an old armoire in a downstairs bedroom The bedroom was converted from a garage which was fully insulated in compliance with building regulations. Despite it being a free standing piece of furniture, not touching the wall, and with plenty of air circulating around it, I have still had...

    No more Quercus Magazine

It's sad when a magazine closes down, especially one that you are really in-tune with and invested in. One would have thought that during lockdown , magazines would have undergone some form of resurgence, but sadly this seems not to have been the case. Up until then I was able to submit - and...

    " Pooh Sticks"

One farmhouse, nearby, that I've done a fair amount of work to, had no real provision for dealing with the water from off the roof. The building had been enlarged in the 1850's and had large overhanging eaves. There had been no provision made for guttering of any sort. but mercifully the main...

    " Pooh Sticks"

The back of the house and the conservatory, both are connected, and need to be separated from the system. Also, if there is flooding to the lower reaches of the garden it helps to have the drains unblocked, as this then helps the water clear, a lot sooner

    " Pooh Sticks"

Plenty of fibre in my diet - thanks for asking :giggle: We even use the cheaper loo roll to ensure that it falls to bits easily This is the system we inherited with the house which functions well except during the " rainy season", which for these past few years has been the autumn period.
