    Interesting Apple wood feature

Don't know about the staining but it appears to be a cup-shake, I've had joinery quality redwood , where the centre of the stock has come completely away. Though if the piece fits neatly in position you can glue it back in place.

Potential sites for new mega-solar farms

No I'm not panicking - what a curious interpretation of what I said. We should simply reserve agricultural land for agriculture. There are other places to put solar panels - I have some on my roof. :giggle:

Potential sites for new mega-solar farms

The trouble with growing crops under cover and with artificial light, is that you have to import the fertility from somewhere. You may well be able to keep better control of the environment to minimise losses But there will be an ever growing commitment to using artificial fertilizers ( not...

Potential sites for new mega-solar farms

I believe the previous government were meant to be releasing a report this month on the level of tax evasion. HMRC have a pretty good idea of the sums they expect to collect for any given year. but I believe this particular report was to contain information from overseas off-shore accounts

Potential sites for new mega-solar farms

From a strategic point of view, neglecting farming is folly. The shadow cast by solar panels is greater than wind turbines, and with the added disadvantage that crops can't be grown on the land on which they stand. Which leads me to believe there should be some form of restriction on good...

Build a bed in home made workshop...

The one thing I did notice about the build, was that the large mortice and tenons that hold the side rails in place were largely nullified by having such a huge rebate taken out to accommodate the slats. Only a thin section of this tenon will be actually holding the rail in place.

How would you make a barn star?

That sounds like a goer, if you screw the individual pieces to a large board to keep your hands well away from the canted blade. You can then run it off the fence, The only problem will be that the off-cuts might rest on the blade and fire off at you - so best wear a visor. :giggle:

How would you make a barn star?

A way to do it from the point of view of making it easy, would to fabricate all the points by first mitring their edges and gluing them together to form a series of tent like structures, slightly over length. The slope can them be marked on base and cut and planed away to form the sharp...

Build a bed in home made workshop...

A bit too " Fred Flintstone" for my liking. :giggle: I have seen his other video on building the cabin which was quite impressive.

Gorilla glue doesn't seem very good

I discovered through experience that the best way to buy PU glue is in a cartridge for use in a sealant gun. I usually have two tubes on the go,- a rapid and a normal one. It will easily keep for al least a year. And, it's easy enough to clip the end of the nozzle or poke it out with a wire if...

    Thought on AI

Reading through the answer that ChatGTP gave is interesting. It is certainly logical, but weighted toward the use of a jig. There is no advice that practising ones skills, will allow you to dispense with sharpening jigs - only that some people like to do it that way because of " the...

    Petrol Stations

There is always the option of transferring bulk goods back to rail - no heavy batteries needed here.

    Petrol Stations

The crux of the matter regarding the use of clean hydrogen, is that it is not the actual energy source, Energy ( electricity ) has to be used to produce it, so it's more akin to a battery in this regard. If using electricity to produce it, then why not cut to the chase and simply charge a battery?

    Poor Moderation

I think it had morphed, past an election debate and turned into a general political one. As this is a workshop forum, then off-topic threads should not really monopolise the forum - however entertaining. Some threads just have that ability to go on-and-on, endlessly, so, I think the moderators...

He thinks this is a caravan…

Surely, more a "mobile home" than a caravan. Doesn't a caravan have to have wheels? :giggle:

    Petrol Stations

Things will move at a pace that is workable, however slow this proves. It will be governed by the rate at which people are prepared to accept change. And, no amount of forcing the issue will be other than counterproductive. The 20th Century happened because of oil, and no one is going to...

Help : What's this moulding profile called?

Lambs Tongue, I believe The glazing bars can be quite interesting if they are made narrower, as it removes that little step at the end.

    THE FOURTH OF JULY

As laudable as this argument is, farmers will not then be able to compete with agricultural produce from abroad. Which will always have the advantage of earlier seasons and cheaper labour. To make this work protectionist policies would have to be implemented, otherwise farmers in this country...
