    Organisation and workflow

Whilst I was earning a living making joinery and fitted furniture, I didn't find it too difficult planning jobs, sourcjng materials, or carrying out the work. In the workshop I was in control of things, and the environment suited me fine - it was my natural habitat.:giggle: Of course, I had...

    Electric vehicles

The problem for driverless cars in this part of the world would be the narrow roads. They are two way, but it's often only possible for one vehicle to fit down them. There are passing places but these are unmarked .so it depends very much on local knowledge, or paying attention to all the likely...

    No Fault Evictions

Maybe, God, if he can be thought to exist, is simply the intelligence behind the whole structure of the universe, which if you think about it is truly awe inspiring. 🤔

    Oak picture rail joints

A simple 45 degrees should suffice. A fixing in close proximity should pull the one piece nicely down onto the other. With your particular profile you could even use a half lap, as long as the bottom part is thin enough not to break through into the profile. PVA should be fine for the splice...

    Oak picture rail joints

That looks like the way to go with this particular rail. One has to be careful when when trimming the plugs, not to be over enthusiastic with the chisel and break them out below the surface. To get the profile for scribing, one can first cut a normal mitre on one of the pieces, and use the...

Using cedar for door frame and door?

The cedar that is mostly recommended for outside use , owing to its rot proof nature is Western Red Cedar. I remember my parents had a green house made of it. I've worked with it over the years and can confirm that it is soft. But if ls is the particular look one is after, then why not?. :giggle:

    No Fault Evictions

I think that was more wishful thinking on Keynes part. There will always be a mix of the private and public. The problem is that local authorities and housing associations have failed to keep pace with the growing need for social housing. And, the free-market is incapable of making up the...

    Old forstners

Some postings, if they don't get a few responses straight away just seem to disappear into the ether. I'm surprised that I hadn't notice this until now. You show a very comprehensive set. In comparison I have a couple of good older bits , in addition to a couple of cheap sets. And the older...

    Centre Bits & Wood Turning

I use centre / Slocombe, bits, just to be sure, to be sure. :giggle: The two advantages they have are their shortness ( they don't poke too far out of the chuck), and their strength ( they are a lot less likely to break)

How is your weather and have you experienced any summer yet ?

Yes, rain, rain, and more rain has been the order of the day. The geese have been flying overhead and honking loudly over the past three weeks. And, for us , this always signals the end of summer - what summer? We've not had the heat wave they kept promising us, though there has been the...

    TV advertising quality!

The ones that annoy me most, are the ones that are clearly dubbed. It is lazy and cheapskate and clearly signifies that the company in question can't be bothered to make the effort.

I think I am inclined to agree with other posters, that this is a rafter length calculator. Perhaps using the scale of 1 inch to a foot.

With such neatly marked scales it is hardly likely to be home -made, so could possibly feature in some catalogue of the period.

What is so difficult about a Ft3 price for prime grade oak?

European Oak is one of those woods that some suppliers get quite "Prissy " about. On principle I won't deal with firms who can't offer a cubic foot price - based , of course on the amount you are buying. When I had my workshop in Kent, there was a local supplier of oak, who categorised his...
