    US Election November 5th

I know , but, it is someone's life we are talking about. And to put it in perspective there have already been two fatalities from the first attempt.

    US Election November 5th

I know many folk like to "slag off" The Donald for his many shortcomings, but it's odd that no one wants to mention the second assassination attempt. Unless of course I missed that post. In which case I apologise.:giggle:

    No Fault Evictions

You seem to be fixated on the undeserving poor. There will always be those who play the system but this shouldn't be used as an excuse to dismiss the the rest. This main causes are the exorbitant cost of housing, low wages and inflation. The poor I know, don't have foreign holidays or holiday...

What best should I do with wood from a large holly tree

The trouble with Holly is keeping it white and not letting it stain. The really white stuff seems to come from America, where they have a better understanding of how to preserve the colour. I believe this relies on it being cut during the winter when the sap is low, and being kilned straight away.

    SOLDERING SILVER TO BRASS

Thanks for the replies, guys. I guess I'm in "suck it and see" territory here. This will be alright with the nickel silver, but I'm a bit reluctant to experiment with the sterling silver on account of the cost, if I burger it up. :)

    SOLDERING SILVER TO BRASS

I need to solder a Sterling Silver collar around a brass tube. And was wondering if I would run into any problems. The general advice seems to be, not to get it too hot. Any further pointers would be greatly appreciated. As a follow on from this, is it possible to silver-solder. nickel...

    No Fault Evictions

The world of our childhood is no longer with us. And, there is no way of going back to it. My parents generation could function with one main wage earner per household. Those were the days when married men were paid more than single men and women were paid a lot less. Those were the days when...

Multi tools, huh! What are they good for?

I have a Leatherman - somewhere .... and it has been used very infrequently. In fact, Its spent much of its life in that particular kitchen drawer - the one where all the "odds and sods" end up. Whatever mix there is, they usually only do one of the tasks really well. If they are built...

    Veneer/ laminate ?

One doesn't have to have alternate layers at a full 90 degrees to each other. Drawer side ply is an example of this. Consequently, it is more akin to solid wood in its appearance and behaviour when planing.

New lathe not aligning - please help [Axminster AW205WL]

Judging by the picture, it seems to show that the side to side alignment is off, rather than the up and down, Is their any debris that is stopping the tailstock assembly from sitting squarely on the bed? Or, is there even some sideways play, where it locates in the bed? EDIT @Sachakins...

Are we being ripped off by tool retailers?

The manufacturing base for many products in this country has disappeared. We obviously cannot compete with cheap labour from the Far East, If we continue to buy products directly , then UK retail companies will start to follow the same trajectory as manufacturing We all love a bargain, and I am...

    No Fault Evictions

Perhaps it is a moral question - "How much is enough ?" Some folk don't seem to have that switch in their head, that tells them, that past a certain point they are just being greedy. :giggle:

Hybrid Gas/Electric eggs, or Full Gas eggs?

I have to admit that in our household we always boil a kettle of water for cooking pasta. It is just so much quicker. Especially, as we have to have two pans on the go - one for gluten-free as well as one for the ordinary sort.

    Awkward Space Storage Solutions?

I have a wooden rack I built to house those plastic crates with the interlocking lids, that delivery firms use a lot. I purchased a whole load to help with moving my workshop. And, I've now incorporated them into my present one on a purpose made rack. You can easily slide the bottom ones out...

    How would you make this...

A router is your best bet. If you put the router on a cradle, after you have used it to cut the inner and outer diameters of the rim, as suggested by @Roland then it should be quite easy to machine away the inner area. You can glue the wood you are working with, onto a wide, base board with...
