    Vehicle oil change

They use a similar seal on the 4 litre Jeeps. They have a tendency to leak so I usually replace with a copper one.

    Greenhouse painting

Definitely need an etch primer if you want it to last anytime. Or don't use one, and when the paint falls off you can say "well darling I tried my best" :-)

    Smoking

The other point Dabop does not seem to appreciate is that the engine produces a greater volume of exhaust gas than the volume of air it ingests in the first place. Partly because of combustion byproducts, but to be fair this is pretty insignificant, about 1.05:1 if I recall correctly, long time...

Remote control for a dust extractor?

Maybe I'm missing something but, if this is a permanent arrangement, why not just extend the wiring so the NVR switch is inside the workshop. Or is it that you want to be able to turn it on and off from a fob?

    Joke Thread 5

My better half has always accused me of collecting useless information, not entirely without justification, but this takes the biscuit. How on earth did you know that ?? :-)

90 degree joint for lean-to roof joist

Main thing is to always start from the end of the roof furthest away from the prevailing wind direction, and work towards it. That way the wind will blow over your joints rather than into them. And stick to whatever recommendations the manufacturer has about overlaps.

    US Election November 5th

    Sounds good to me.

    US Election November 5th

Oh god not this b******s again. This has been debunked so many times. Give us a break and go play conspiracy theories somewhere else please.

    US Election November 5th

Putin is in a mess. His ambition to invade Ukraine has been a disaster. Whether he was deluded enough to believe that the Ukrainians would jump at the chance to be reunited, or that his forces would simply sweep them aside we may never really know. Quite likely that he will have been badly...

    US Election November 5th

I'm not sure the Russian people have any such ambitions. Of course we don't know what they want, they have no real voice. Putin couldn't give a **** what they think. If he dropped dead tomorrow I suspect Russia's expansionist ambitions would die with him.

    US Election November 5th

Utter drivel. Maybe you ought to change your name to Neville.

    The joy Of Citric Acid

I have always used evaporust on more delicate stuff, will have to have a try with electrolysis. Haven't done it for years.

    Predicting the Future

I remember having a blackberry. I could only conclude that whoever designed it had toothpicks for fingers, and remarkable eyesight. The girl I worked with at the time could type on the thing at warp speed, just using her thumbs. Meanwhile I'm poking away at the damn thing and cursing because I...

    Predicting the Future

Infuriating isn't it. Half the time mine beeps and I look at the notifications, damned if I can work out what less than vital nonsense it's trying to alert me to. Wonder what happens if you switch on Alexa or whatever and just tell it to "shut the **** up" :-)

    Predicting the Future

You could potentially get a pay as you go SIM in one and divert calls between the two. Will either cost next to nothing or loads, depending on your contract. Also worth contacting the provider. They will often give you a good rate for a second SIM if you already have one with them. But I'm with...

    US Election November 5th

Interesting that some Tesla components, blade batteries for example, are made in China. So guessing Trump's "we're going to tariff the hell out of them" might have some exceptions ?

    The joy Of Citric Acid

The grey does seem to be a surface deposit, rather than etching. If you rub the part with a scotchbrite pad it comes off, leaving a black deposit on the pad. You are right of course that etching will take place, it is acid afterall. You can show this by simply putting a highly polished piece in...

    Lichtenberg wood burning

Maybe a preliminary visit to your solicitor to make sure your will is in order.

    The joy Of Citric Acid

Brass can be cleaned really well using white vinegar with a dessert spoon of salt per litre. Heat it up until the salt is fully dissolved. Keeps for quite a while in a jar. Will quickly remove verdigris and tarnishing.

    The joy Of Citric Acid

You get the same effect using phosphoric acid. Don't know what it is, not a chemist! But give them a rub with wire wool and it will come off and get you back to a nice shiny steel.
