My first MFT bench and remote controlled shop vac

Thanks for this. Is the wireless remote Bluetooth, or something else? Just curious. The Scheppach is great for the money - especially for this kind of application, where it only runs for short periods as a few folks have told me they can be prone to overheating. The filtration isn’t stellar...

    Kitchen hinges, heavy duty

That’s a square metre of door, or ~15Kg in 18mm; 22mm would add 3Kg, so no big deal. I’d use at least 4 hinges on a 2000mm door just to keep everything in line TBH, so another 3Kg is neither here nor there. I use regular Blum 71B3550 - built-in soft close, cheap cruciform plate gives plenty of...

    Track saws?

Oh sure - but it’s the bore and the kerf that can catch you out, and frankly bizarre that neither manufacturer offers an oem blade. 🤷‍♂️ Great shout on Solent Tools btw - didn’t know about them, thanks! 🙌👍

    Track saws?

The saws? No. These two are a little bigger- 185mm blade vs 160/165mm as ‘normal’ - but the blade size is a pain as neither manufacturer offer blades as spare parts, and the depth of cut is only +12mm or so.

    Track saws?

The Erbauer is a dead ringer for the large Triton (TTS 185) so you maybe able to get spares from them that are interchangeable. Might be worth a look, anyway?

    Track saw - T55 or Mafell MT55

Great history post @JobandKnock 👍 Small clarification - the Excel rails are clones of the Makita rail, so have the same central rib, and upper-facing t-slot at the left. The one-hump rails are the old Festo-pattern from YouTool, sold through SauterShop. 👍👍

How do these cuts not cause kick back?

I tend to stay out of these kind of threads because honestly I’m with @doctor Bob on this one - really couldn’t give much of a toss! 😂 What I do find baffling - bizarre, really - is the desire to hold individuals in other countries to the commercial safety standards of this one, whilst giving...

    Spiral Upcut Router Bits

Sorry, been away. Most 1/4“ routers will also take 6mm and 8mm collets.

    Spiral Upcut Router Bits

Pretty sure that's a 6mm shank; as @Spectric says, it's not just a question of nipping it up a bit tighter, you really need a 6mm collet for it.

    Spiral Upcut Router Bits

You need to be a little careful buying these, as a lot of spiral bits are metric shanks, rather than imperial. Buying a metric bit / imperial shank isn't always straightforward, and they can be on the short side as they're often intended more for CNC applications than hand held routers. Wealden...

    Diy domino

Hi. Sorry, don't really want to get into discussing firm prices publicly just yet, but let's say I'm aiming at under £50 for the smaller jig. There'll be an optional 'starter pack' with a 5mm spiral upcut bit, enough dominos to make a couple of carcasses and a few mistakes, and the option of a...

    Diy domino

It’s good. Really easy way of setting up a shop or store-front, and a surprising number of people use Etsy as a ‘destination’ - I’d assumed my traffic would all come through me promoting it on my YouTube & Insta, but 20-30% just comes through folks browsing Etsy. 👍👍

    Diy domino

Not sure I can post a link to the kit without incurring the wrath of the admins (or buying an ad…) but perhaps another member might? 🤔 Mine’s a CNCd version of the DIY jig I posted about back in May - video here - and afaik it’s the only jig that allows for a narrow and wider slot in the same...

*Amateur* How do you finish Birch plywood?

For anything commercial I'd agree with a water-based polyurethane; I like to use a flooring lacquer - Junckers Strong is a personal fave, though there are others. Spraying would ge good, but application with a foam roller works well. Build the layers up, de-nibbing between, and finishing with an...

    Camera buying advice please

Have to agree. I like a nice camera - I have a few - and I’d always use them for anything serious, like shooting video. But if I’m just taking photos I prefer my phone - nice big hi-res screen, superfast previewing, and in-camera image processing that make most cameras look like they have the...

    Diy domino

The final samples have been in the hands of a few folks for a couple of weeks generating valuable feedback, and it has its first public preview in tomorrow’s video. 👍

Anyone had any luck selling their woodworking plans online?

Yes, I sell PDFs through my Etsy; I’m not big on plans, generally, so didn’t bother for a long time, but it’s become a nice little separate revenue stream, which is - apart from the few numpty’s who struggle with the overall ‘download’ concept - largely a passive income generator. I do have...

    Track saws?

I like tracksaws, I have a few. All the entry-level and supermarket saws have some niggles, and at this sort of level the quality control is largely customer led ie return for exchange or refund. But the ones I‘ve bought have all been capable of doing the job they were intended for - straight...

    Thinnest stock for Domino?

But that’s the benefit of the Domino isn’t it? There may be alternatives at every use-case, but if you have a Domino, you don’t need them. 🤷‍♂️

    What do you collect

I have a very modest collection of Seiko watches - one or two from each decade I’ve been breathing. I won’t pay silly money, and wasn’t sure I’d manage anything from the 60s, but picked a nice one up last year. 👍
