    Linear Sander

With care and some fine grits it would probably do a decent enough job, though I wouldn't call it a fine finish sander tbh - it has a 4mm stroke - so I'd say geared more towards paintwork prep; certainly, that's what I use mine for. HTH Pete

    Linear Sander

I have the LS130, and pretty much agree with everything Custard says above - it's certainly my least-used sander, and tends to only be used on one specific type of job these days. I tried the custom-moulding blocks and while they worked well enough, you need to be doing an awful lot of the same...

Festoool Kapex or Bosch Axial Glide?

If it helps, I don't know if anyone (myself included) who bought a Kapex and regretted it... But yeah, big chunk o' change...

    Rutlands : Pack of 10 - F Clamp 300mm £29.95

Mine arrived today as well - perfectly decent, should do the job nicely. Must admit I've never had an issue with Rutlands either, and have bought a fair few things from them over the years.

    Track Saw Question

Well, that's exactly the opposite for me, so we'll have to agree to disagree there, Steve; I chose the black Makita strip specifically because I find it easier to see than the translucent Festool strip... Cheers, Pete

Festoool Kapex or Bosch Axial Glide?

If you need to cart it around a lot, or work in people's homes where the better dx is a benefit, then Kapex. If not, then the Bosch is a good option- big old lump though, so best left static ihmo. HTH Pete The only thing worse than spending more than you need is spending less than you should...

Are there really people this uneducated?

I jacked in Mensa after I met another Mensan... Yep.

    Track Saw Question

The Makita's a bit more 'rubbery' the Festool more 'plasticky'; haven't put a micrometer on either, so if there's a difference in thickness it hasn't make any difference to the quality of cut I'm getting. Re. riving knives and potential for the blade to get pinched, if it looks like this might...

    Track Saw Question

I use mine a lot, so I replace the rail strips more-or-less annually, though some rails are used more than others, of course. I generally buy Makita 3 metre rail strips (about £7-odd) as these cover a variety of rail sizes, and I prefer the black strip to Festool's translucent. If you prefer to...

    Domino or biscuit jointer?

Domino. Though I'm finding myself drawn towards the Lamello Zeta P2 for the potential of knockdown fittings - seems like they'd be very useful for my kind of work. Then again, it makes the Domino look like a bargain, in comparison... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    4' Bed Frame

+1 to this. I like Junkers Strong clear lacquer, never had a problem with it. Pete

Im sure this will become annoying

In which case perhaps I should remind you of Festool's 14 day 'try before you buy, no quibble' refund policy :) Also, if you keep it in tidy condition you're likely to get the majority of your money back on an MFT if you decide it's not for you a year or three down the road... Pete

Steam bending woood - Grand Designs

I'm amazed they found the time, lol! I quite liked it overall - though I agree about the square-ended handrails - but I don't think they really thought it through; a 2-bed house for a couple with two young children and a third on the way?? Going to be very bus in there in a year or two!

Im sure this will become annoying

Clearly you've never had to carry one up a flight of stairs, or tried to paste wallpaper on one, lol! I have the older MFT/1080 and it's the main bench in my small workshop. Set up as essentially static, in the middle of a 20' run of benchtop, with the fence and flag stops I can cut panels...

To barrel (grip), or not to barrel?

Well, just for balance I think the systainer system is brilliant, especially if you move your gear aroud at all - I have all my tools in them, on rollboards. And I'm a big fan of barrel grip jigsaws, love mine (not Makita). HTH Pete Edited to add - just for clarity, the newer t-loc sustainers...

    Mirka Ceros sander problem

No direct experience, but there have been a few threads on FOG over the years that mention cable failures on the Ceros/Deros (e.g. here) - it does seem to be a weak point.

    Work Pants- what's available now?

I like Tuffstuff Extreme 700 work trousers - good balance of price, durability, comfort & utility - though the 711 series weren't bad, and good value. The main gripe I have with all work trousers is that the designers seem to be stuck in the past regarding phone pockets - I mean, it's great to...

Cheaper alternative to MFT fixed clamps?

There's the Walko quick clamp set that's very similar, and seems a little cheaper at €44, but VAT & carriage brings it up to €65, so barely worthwhile; for the sake of a fiver or so I'd buy the Festool ones - I did, and they're probably my most used clamps. HTH Pete

Cheapest way to cut MDF to size?

+1 to all the above; get the yard to cut it for you, use a home-made saw board, or buy a tracksaw. And in case it hasn't been mentioned already, use Moisture Resistant (MR) MDF - it's a much better quality board for not much more money. That's a non-issue; TBH, even with a home-made saw board...
