    STREtek poplar faced ply

The law is very clear on this and any paid promotion has to be tagged as such:- This project was made with tools that Robin had had provided for him; there’s a whole other debate about wether that constitutes ‘payment’ but legally at least, it has to be declared. There’s no such declaration...

    STREtek poplar faced ply

I’ve only watched Robin’s video quickly and I don’t think he mentioned what the core plys are, but it’s a poplar faced board i.e. a poplar veneer. The boards I looked at were the other way round - birch faced, but poplar ply. Haven’t had hands on with the Stretek board yet, but my understanding...

    Festool Garbage?

Long straight lengths are a pain to do with a tracksaw, though it’s how I did them, yes. I carried a length of scrap MDF around to use as a spoilerboard, specifically for that purpose; I would have much preferred this saw. Infills are usually cut at 90 degrees to the carcass and angled where...

    Festool Garbage?

It’s intended as a site saw for installers, so ripping a 70mm strip off that length of 12mm board you had sprayed for an infill - or several - would be one application that’s faster than trying it by hand. 👍

Review of Festool table saw by Peter

    😂 I wrote ‘cheapest’ honest!

    Festool Garbage?

I’ve been told they do, so fingers crossed, indeed. 👍

Review of Festool table saw by Peter

Thanks Roy. It’s a ‘first impressions’ vid rather than a full review, but certainly divisive. Re the cost, it was pretty much bang in the middle of the range of saws I looked at - about a grand more than the sharpest, and about a grand less than the most expensive. 👍

    Festool Garbage?

Thanks. Trying hard not to be overly negative about the product whilst being honest about the areas where it could be improved. I laid out my buying decisions pretty clearly in the previous video - I was after a small, quiet, accurate saw with great dust collection, and this does everything I...

    Festool Garbage?

Thanks, though I’d say capacity is the least concern of all, for a saw of this type; the lack of mains power is a much bigger barrier, and the sawstop tech would make the saw a lot bigger - even if Festool were able/willing to make it work on this saw. 👍

    Festool Garbage?

DeWalt do a mains adapter for their cordless table saw, so it is feasible. But yes, it’s a niche product - though I was told that the initial orders were 20x what were expect hence the supply issues, so perhaps a larger niche than you might expect! 🤷‍♂️

    Festool Retailer

Should be a ‘first impressions’ video out this Friday. 👍 But yes, I pre-ordered and paid in full on January 26th, cancelled May 26th, ordered from Amazon on Sunday 28th and received the saw the following Wednesday (bank holiday weekend). The stock does seem to be coming through to the dealers...

FC Tools fc32 rail plunge jig

Not possible in this instance Roy, it’s the custom nature of the bit that makes the difference. Long story short, in my testing (I’ve used pretty much all the MFT jigs available here in Britain) off the shelf 20mm router bits ((by far the fastest/easiest way to get the desired top) produce a...

FC Tools fc32 rail plunge jig

Almost there Roy. Just trying to wrangle a custom router bit issue - continue to support British industry and try to resolve to issue, or just buy from Taiwan at half the price, but a 3 month lead - otherwise it’s ready to go. I did my own take on the LR32 MFT issue in this video - as long as...

    birch plywood query

No, it’s another board and I’m very much looking forwards to getting my hands on some. 👍

    MDF Cabinet Doors

I switched to 22mm for shaker doors after I had issues with larger 18mm doors bowing; that extra 4mm makes all the difference, and I had no problems afterwards. If it isn’t already on your radar, then MRMDF is a much better board for not much more money. HTH P

Why do so many woodworking youtubers use Blues/Bluegrass background music

Thank you Derek; very kind of you to say so. And yes, YouTube has become a business for many of us; I'm in regular contact with a few British YouTubers in this sector and we're all a little taken aback that we can actually do this for a living, when all we wanted to do when we started out was to...

Why do so many woodworking youtubers use Blues/Bluegrass background music

Trouble is Noel, if you used ordinary voidy splintery ply the conversation would be all about the material not the work. And you use fancy Birch ply because a/ it looks good on video, and b/ because you have to spend your YouTube millions somehow, right? 🤷‍♂️👍

Why do so many woodworking youtubers use Blues/Bluegrass background music

This, exactly Dean. And it’s what I don’t generally use music at all - it’s too divisive for the viewers, too distracting. I like how Scott Brown uses music - but then I generally like the music he uses. Mostly woodwork makes it’s own soundtrack, and I find the quieter stretches - glue-ups etc...

MFT and Rail Square - my thoughts

Same, way too big for working in people’s houses in London Make sure all your work is on the ground floor! Like Daleks, all these trolley/cart based solutions fall apart when it comes to a set of stairs. If only there was a way to somehow add to the dimensions to make it bigger… 😂
