MFT tables - do you use them?

I route in a sacrificial strip of MDF that’s easily replaced. Also, for the folks who seem to think that the MFT is just about cutting straight lines, and that an MFT-style top with rails dogs does the same job, I’ll just say that having a fence with flag stops, and the hinged rail, make a...

    Built in wardrobe carcass size.

Egger MFC boards are 18mm as standard. Or you could use Melamine Faced MDF - also 18mm, and may be easier to get in manageable sizes.

    American you tube videos

That’s fair - though for the record I have no feelings either way for power tool wood carving or shaping, it’s something I have zero interest in - it’s just that this particular company seem to be marketing this as a general-purpose do-it-all blade capable of e.g. ripping solid timber. So no...

    American you tube videos

Yes, land of the free and all that. Unfortunately you see this popping up in a few vids from British YouTubers, too, who really ought to know better. I’ve had this company - http://speedcuttergraff.com - nagging me for some time to review their product, a multi-purpose blade for wood. For an...

    Forum for proffesoonals?

Exactly, and not OT at all as so many people don’t seem to be able to get past the ‘pricing’ aspect that the OP mentioned (and note he talked of “pricing”, not prices) when it was one amongst several things he mentioned he’d like to chat about. Ditto with tool reviews/opinions; its a different...

    Forum for proffesoonals?

Nope, never come across one - it’s pretty much why I started the podcast, tbh, to have a chat about all that stuff with someone else in the business. Twitter’s quite handy, though it can take a little while to find a good group of bods to follow. Instagram, too. Shame your original request...

    Label printers

I used Dymo for a while, never had any problems with it other than the nasty software. Replaced it with a Brother QL 720NW wireless model and it’s been excellent for the modest use we put it to. Really nice to be able to bang out a quick label from your phone with the Brother app, and it will...

    Painting & Decorators

Sure, though I'd be more likely to wait until I had a quieter patch and do it myself. I'm good and fast, but I'd still want to be onsite for four days, and I'd expect most folks to need a week. As I said, it sounds to me like a guy who has a good idea of the value of his time; just because a...

    Painting & Decorators

Sounds perfect! Maybe you're right, but the OP didn't mention where he was based, which, as I think someone mentioned further up the thread, is always a little odd when asking for pricing advice, no?

    Painting & Decorators

Really? Sounds to me like someone with a decent grasp on business and the value of their time, with kids in school and a mortgage to pay, van and insurance payments, and all the other expenses of working for yourself. Always amazes me when people think e.g. decorating should be cheap, or that it...

d/s sticky tape for splinter guard on Makita rails

3M if there’s a choice, but I haven’t had any issues with other brands e.g. Mammoth. I think as long as you’re not buying unbranded ‘3 for £1 down the market’ stuff you should be pretty safe. Oh, and a hairdryer to warm up the rubber strip & adhesive makes it peel off more easily too, for next...

    festool box inserts

Be sure to buy the right ones - the boxes for the t-loc sustainers are a slightly different height to the classic sustainers. P

    Thanks Doug - fixed now

Cabinet Hinges for Cabinets With Face-Frames?

It’s a bit hard to tell from the vid wether he’s run the face-frame flush with the inside of the carcass or not, but he’ll be using inset hinges, something like these possibly with thicker mounting plates, like these. HTH P

Has the forum been hacked ?

I like it. Much easier to read on an iPad, vastly better on a phone - though like many I mostly use tapatalk there. Here’s a fun exercise for all those whining about these changes; imagine if Charly, in anticipation of all this whingeing and moaning, simply shut it down and moved it to a...

Stair paint. Alternatives to gloss. Any tips?

99% of my commercial work is painted in water-based acrylic eggshell, without any issues. I haven’t used it yet, but the slightly hard to get hold of Tikkurila Helmi is getting rave reviews from the decorators I know, so I’ll be giving it a try before too long. +1 for Bedec as well - at...

Tips for time (and client) management!

Following the same principle, with bigger jobs give yourself extra time between them e.g. a month-long job has a week of ‘buffer’ time before starting the next. If you schedule this in, then overruns aren’t an issue, and as said, you can either start the next job earlier (prep always takes...

    Workshop air filter

The trouble with air scrubbers like the Record is that they’re a bit over-specced (“for workspaces up to 113 cubic Metres”) for a small shop - mine’s 1/3 that size. Never seen one for £130 either, unless you mean ex-vat Cornish?? You can get panel filters pretty easily btw e.g...

    Mail order razors

I signed up to Harry’s, after a trial of their blades & foam. I like them. Only had one refill so far but I was emailed before it was due to be sent and could have delayed it if I hadn’t needed it. And you can cancel anytime. I think the trial was £4 (handle & blade, foam) why not give it a try?
