Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

Looks more like the Titan - slightly odd 230mm size (9”) at the throat, claimed 90mm depth of cut.

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

👍👍 I wouldn’t go that far - you never know where Paul Hollywood’s hands have been, lol - but thank you; it may have been your post about the Aldi bandsaw that prompted me to buy one a few years back! Great little saw, again still going strong to the nest of my knowledge. 👍💪

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

I’ve owned all three. As others have said the 8” Scheppach is identical to the old Aldi Workzone; great starter bandsaw, never worth the Screwfix asking price though. I had the Titan next; it’s actually a 9” bandsaw, 230mm at the throat so not so different to the Aldi Ferrex, but with the...

    Rail square reviews

Long story short; where possible get someone with a panel saw or beam saw that costs more than your car to do it for you. If collection is an issue, have them deliver. If deliveries are problematic, look elsewhere. If that’s not possible, then parallel guides and rail squares can help; parallel...

    Router advice needed

Just to clarify, you want to cut a 25mm wide, 55mm deep slot in the edge of a board to use as a finger pull? How thick is the board? As @TheTiddles says, a core box cutter would do it but it’s a big old cut to make, especially for someone who’s never used a router before. Wealden tool have a...

    Britain's Best Woodworker

It was shot September last year, and was originally called Good With Wood; the show was shelved after ‘The Chop’ tattoo debacle, and re-branded as Britains Best Woodworker for release this year. Joe Whittaker is Average Joes Joinery on YouTube, nice chap, very capable. HTH P

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Looks fantastic, and a great use of the space! a good to hear your friends are happy - they should be! 👍🙌

    Wera tools advent calendar £42.80

I usually end up recommending one of these in the pre-Christmas gift ideas vid. If you get one every year they can end up a bit ‘samey’ but usually good value for the contents you get, and can often be picked up a bit cheaper if you shop around. 👍

Which bench dog / MFT system?

Thanks for the reminder Dave. Dennis from TritonToolsUK retired recently and the spare parts company was brought within Triton Tools ‘proper’. 👍

Which bench dog / MFT system?

I did a video about a cheap fix for that here 👍

    Cutting cement board?

I’ve done it with an old 48t stock blade in the TS55 - great finish! Not sure about butting two pieces together though - I’d try for a bigger sheet, personally. HTH P

Which bench dog / MFT system?

No issues with them here, but I tend to leave the square attached to a rail So they don’t get changed much once set. Best way I found was to lock one raildog onto the rail but leave the other loose, then fit the rail onto the MFT and tighten the loose dog from underneath. I found that to be...

Which bench dog / MFT system?

Thank you. I‘m afraid I’ve no direct experience of ‘mini rail dogs’ - never heard of them actually, I don’t work for Benchdogs, they don’t send me everything they make - but by the looks of it they’re just shorter rail dogs, so aside from the capacity issue they should work as per the regular...

Which bench dog / MFT system?

I did a video about the various pros and cons of a rail square vs MFT & dogs, here - might be worth a watch. Rail squares are nice and self-contained, and the rail can be clamped at the far end if it’s a long rip. There’s been a ‘repeat stop’ accessory for the Benchdogs square promised from for...

Ikea/MFC cabinets - adding face frame and doors

For carcasses of standard sizes like kitchens I always recommend that folks buy rather than build, and spend their energies on the fun twiddly bits like doors and panels. IKEA kitchen cabinets we’re always decent enough, though you needed to be careful about the sizing, and the lack of a service...

    Custom MFT top

Is this something you’d be interested in doing commercially? I’m selling 20-30 sets of plans a month, and while my bench was designed so that a standard MFT top could be easily adapted, a 1200 or 1400 wide top is a better option for most. Thanks, P

    Custom MFT top

It was Mick at Formatic who did the tops for my portable bench originally. Unfortunately he seems to be having some issues, and really started letting folks down - including me - so I’m afraid I’ve had to look elsewhere. I did have a discussion with Rhys at Norfolk Bespoke Woodworks, but he’s...

Joints for a set of shelves ?

The last build and install from earlier in the year was an angled wardrobe in a loft room, but it wasn’t intended for the kind of load a stamp collection and ring binders would apply. Full playlist here FWIW - My last build & Install - https://bit.ly/MyLastBuild Just looking at your drawings...

    Built-in chest of draws help

If it was a 3-box design you’d only see another upright on the left hand box - you already have one visible at right - but you’re right, avoiding the ‘double upright’ is the reason to go for that design. Personally, I find the single upright at left and the double at right a little jarring...

    "New" abrasives?

Yes, I had some samples from eBrasives. Decent mesh abrasive in a variety of grits and sizes, works well.
