    Doctor Bob's Workshop Bash

Got back late last night after a long run on the bike to Bob's bash. Got to add my heartfelt thanks to Bob for a great day. Very informative for all of us especially the commercial wood workers to speed things up. It was nice to meet some of the members and put names to faces (if i remember...

    Lack of spare wheel

I have to agree with your garage Roger, Most repairs on cars nowadays are very expensive due to all the electronics. I am not a fan of electronics on vehicles, too much to go wrong and when they do there's not much you can do about it but take it to a garage. It seems like everything on a car...

    Scribing plaster coving

I did one using the same method recently, but I was lucky enough to have corner pieces to go over the mitres so they didn't have to be that critical. :D

    Lack of spare wheel

A good friend of mine is a tyre fitter and hates those cars with the compressor and goo. Apparently it is done to save weight due to getting the emission with the lean burn engines. They will supply a spare wheel/tyre but it will cost you as it is an optional extra. I personally think it is a...

Are there ways I can stop a long bookshelf from sagging?

I would also go with the torsion box solution. I built some wide wardrobes with a shelf above and used this method and I could hang off it it was so strong. (That was 12mm MDF)

Hello, Could really do with some advice

I built a ramp for my bike, heavy 250 kilos! for my van. I used 2X4 pressure treated with diagonal bracing underneath on a ladder frame. i also put a lip on the top to stop the wheels falling off and a metal hook on the front to hook onto the van. It cost me almost as much as buying a metal one...

Most structurally sound material - breakage resistance?

To coin a phrase from a Clint Eastwood movie just after he had battered a guy with a piece of wood: "You can't beat a good piece of Hickory"

    Mirrored Bathroom Cabinet Doors

Yes the mirror adhesive works well. I built a bathroom cabinet with a large mirror on the front I think it was around 600 x 400 and it was solid as a rock. I had to weight it down and leave overnight but it worked fine on MDF.

This SIP compressor or that one?

if you are going for one of the ones you have posted I would make it the black one even though it does need a separate feed. That one has 14CFM output which is what you will need for HVLP. P.S. I got Bob's old one, good machine.

    What a day!

I spent today fitting the concealed cabinets I have been building.....still not finished! when I got there the plinth needed a lot of hacking about to accommodate some pipe work. Then the units needed cut outs for a heating controller and a couple of sockets. By the time I had that lot done it...
