    Kuala Lumpur / Dubai advice?

Whoa, Monkey Mia, Are you going to see the Dolphins? I have never been but have seen it on TV. I did manage to swim with a Dolphin once but that was in the UK. Sounds like a great trip you have planned. :D

    Started the winter jobs!

This gate matches another on the customers property. On the bottom rail the rebate is sloped outwards with small gaps to allow the water to run out. I have also sloped the back of the bottom rail too for the same reason. HTH.

Looks like the winter projects have started already as That is when I usually get the gate jobs! True to form I have just finished my third gate in a row. Why don't customers ask for these jobs during the summer?? Oh well, it's all work. :D

    Glossy doors

My method for high gloss MRMDF goes like this: Brush on one coat of Zinnser bin on all of the edges. When dry sand down with 120 grit dry. dust off and then prime or first topcoat. When this is dry and cured sand down with 320 grit, dust off and apply two top coats. once this is cured wet sand...

    Glossy doors

Yes, you will need spraying facilities and something to polish the finish with. I have done these a few times with 2 pack paints (Morrells) but you will need to be set up for it. HTH.

    Alcove doors fitted

I got the two alcove doors fitted today. Getting the frame to fit was a nightmare due to the ceiling. I had to be very careful scribing it in as you can imagine with this set up. Anyway they didn't look too bad once they were in and the customer was happy which is what matters. :D...

    Divorce - relationship breakups

Been there three times now and know how you feel. As above hang in there and things do get better. Good friends are a help and I found that throwing myself into work helped...(that was probably the reason for the break ups but anyway) it is a release and will help take your mind off it. HTH...

    Spraying MRMDF

Do you mean the Zinnser bin or the paint? Zinnser only smells while it is wet but dries pretty quickly around 30-40 mins. As for the Morrells 2K it does take a few days for the smell to completely dissapear. (this is the solvent based I should add) Also the solvent based should really be sprayed...

    Spraying MRMDF

Personally I would go with Morrells for spraying. the 2K I mentioned is a 2 pack system using a catalyst to cure the paint. I use the solvent based one as I don't like water based for spraying. Roger is correct it is the second one I use, brilliant stuff, saves so much time.

    Tonight - Ch4 - One man's Spitfire renovation

I did wonder about the cannon as it did state the MK1's were fitted with the .303's. I suppose the 20mm was more of an awesome sight for the cameras. Really enjoyed the program and am a big fan of Guy's. He actually works very close to my timber merchants and one of the yard guys often...

    Spraying MRMDF

One of the best sealers for MDF is Zinnser bin. It is shellac based and white in colour. Brush on leave for about an hour and then sand. It sands down very easily and can be over coated with anything. it is not cheap costing around £15 per litre but one coat is enough. I use this for all of my...

Not such a roll today, finished at last!

I got them completed today and they are now ready for fitting....when the weather allows. looks like it could be towards the end of this week, I hope. ;)

Not such a roll today, finished at last!

I managed to get the frames completed today and ready for the panels. I have already cut the V T&G boards ready for fitting and given them a good couple of coats of timber treatment.

Not such a roll today, finished at last!

I got the finish on the small book case and delivered it last night. I also got the finish on the two alcove doors which I finished off this morning. I then made a start on these double gates in softwood again. Still a bit of work to do on these yet but not a bad start really. :D

    On a roll today!

I buy my pine from the local timber merchants. The book case is made from a laminated pine board which comes as a 10' x 2' board. All of the other is off the shelf PAR. I always go sort through the stacks myself.

    On a roll today!

I had a really good day today in the shop. You know the ones, when everything just goes right. :D Well I started the day by making a set of doors for an alcove cupboard job I have. With these done I then started work on a small softwood gate for another customer. After a quick sandwich break...
