Computer desk in Oak (now finished)

Well I got most of the AWO machined up and started on the computer desk late yesterday. I think I must be on steroids as I got the main carcass built almost ready for assembly. I then made a start on the internals and got those cut to size. Got to change the thicknesser blades tomorrow as the...

I thought I would wait and see what the customer thinks first.

    Toybox seat WIP

Got this completely finished today. The soft close stays arrived so I had a break from machining the Oak and got it fitted. Here is the wishy washy white finish. Well back to the Oak now. :D

    Sliding Mitre Saw

I have the 718 pre XPS and am very happy with it. For me it was a toss up between that and the Festool one but my hands are too small for the Festool and it felt difficult so I went for the De Walt.

    (Yet another) MDF wardrobe

Not wanting to piddle on your bonfire Colin but if you are going to use veneered MDF for the door rails and stiles what would you do about the inside edges? once cut they will be showing the inner MDF! It is usual with this design to use solid wood for the rails and stiles with a veneered panel...

    Toybox seat WIP

Glad to be of help Pete. I use a 3mm cutter for cutting to the lines but have a larger one for hogging out the larger waste. i usually use two routers with the cutters set up in each. Another little tip if you are making the letters in relief is to use a chisel on the back ground like a cabinet...

    Toybox seat WIP

Thanks Pete. I draw the letters onto the panel and then rout them out freehand. The trick is to score around the letters first with a sharp craft knife and then rout them in small steps gradually increasing the depth of cut. With the scoring when the cutter gets close to the line the waste just...

    Toybox seat WIP

Just started another 'quickie' job so I thought it might be worth a WIP this time. It is a toybox seat in Pine this time. It has been a while since I used the dovetail jig so I dusted it off and ran a test piece. Once I was happy with it I got on with cutting the pieces. Glad to say I still...

    Two driving questions

Sorry should have explained, it means a position about two thirds of the way out from the curb. I assume it is derived from military speak indicating positions on a clock face. I am also with Phill and will pull over slightly to the left if someone wants to pass me while on the bike. (I...

    Two driving questions

As a biker who recently passed the test I was instructed to ride in the 4 0' clock position to dominate your space in the road. In this position you are clear of any obstructions on the left and also can 'pop' in and out to show your there to the vehicle in front. This is especially true with a...

    More oak

I started machining up the AWO today. I got half of it done and decided to have a break and start on a cutlery insert the customer had asked for along with the computer desk. I set up the router table and within a couple of hours I had the thing assembled. I left the base loose as it will be...

    log stores

OK, I will. The wood is American White oak and it is for a computer desk to match some other units. :D

    Hinges for gates

How about fitting some of the heavy duty ball bearing stainless hinges to them? I have used them on a set of garage doors before and they work a treat.

    log stores

After making and fitting the gates I have been building a couple of log stores for my cousin. He wanted something pretty for the garden. :D looking forward to my next job though as I just picked up this lot today. ;)

    Kuala Lumpur / Dubai advice?

I did consider myself lucky to swim with the Dolphin Bob but the experience I consider the best was diving with the seals for a full week on the Farne Islands, They are so playful and inquisitive, I got some great video footage of it too. Great memories. Good luck with Monkey Mia, an experience...
