How To Set Up For Halving Joints Using Power Tools?

Maybe you could possibly modify this jig to do the job. I made this jig to cut large tennons when I built a Gazebo. As you can see it is a plate of MDF with a hole for the router cutter. there is a stop on the underside end which the timber is butted up against. Then a sliding piece which acts...

    Another built in Finally fitted!

Not much progress on these at the moment as my unlucky streak is still running! I started sanding all the doors this morning ready for priming but my compressor developed a fault and it took me most of the day to rectify it! It is now fixed and I can get all the parts sanded ready for a finish...

Fancy two wheels in the snow?

Wow! and I was worried about going out on my bike on a frosty road.

    Disposing of paint tins

Fly tip em! The local council recycling centres get worse day by day. Mine wouldn't take two boxes of ceramic tiles when I tried to get rid of them in the van. They did say I could dispose of them for £9 or take them in the boot of my car! I don't own a car.

    Planer Blade Setting Jigs

I have used the setting gauges but found them to be a bit hit and miss. I now always use the wood and two pencil marks and it is spot on. It is a little fiddly and time consuming but works very well and costs nothing. HTH.

    Another built in Finally fitted!

Well having got back onto the wardrobe job I managed to get the drawer boxes built. I will stain these before fitting the bottoms to them. Now as my luck has been a bit thin on the ground this month it was inevitable that I would make a mistake somewhere and here it is: While building the...

    Another built in Finally fitted!

Sorry I haven't updated this recently but have been having some problems. My van let me down and has gone Kaput so I have had a mad panic to scrape up the money to buy another 'old' van. As you may know I had a 2002 Ford Transit, well apparently the fuel pump gave up and it was going to cost me...

    Another built in Finally fitted!

Over the last few days I have been getting the shoe cabinets ready for painting. As you can imagine there was a lot of sanding to be done but they are ready now. I also got all of the six sliding doors made for the wardrobe. They are made out of 18mm MRMDF and will be hung from a rail on rollers...

    Another built in Finally fitted!

I couldn't find any racks of the right size Bob. My customer wanted the slide out racks so the rack has to be front to back which is only 600mm deep and the cabinet is 550mm wide. If I could have found one to fit I would have as they were a pain to make and as you state took up too much time...

    Another built in Finally fitted!

Well over the last couple of days I have been making the shoe racks. There was a lot of work involved in these so I got set up for a production line with the tools and machinery. So by mid day I had them both assembled. Then a test inside the cabinet. With everything lined up I then got on to...

Lifting MDF (or aaagghhh!!!....my backs gone pop!!)

I am no youngster any more and I do suffer with a bad back due to an injury many years ago. From what I can interpret from the above posts everyone seems to be lifting the board on it's long edge onto the bench? I have my sheets stacked on end in a rack with a 2' base so I can just tilt it to...

    Another built in Finally fitted!

There is more to add to this yet Bob and it should look much better once finished. This is the way the cabinet will fit in the wardrobes Woodmonkey. This unit will have a door fitted to the front and the frame will be fitted with shelves for the shoes. It depends on what runners I am using as to...

    Another built in Finally fitted!

    Guy Martin - Gravity Racer

Guy is a great bloke. As everyone has stated he is down to earth and intelligent. He lives up the road from me (Well a village away) I used to work over the road from him too and occasionally meet him at the burger bar. He is just as you see him on TV and has balls of steel. It is great...

    Secrets of the castle

It was a great program and very informative. Those stairs were amazing. Not sure if it was me or what but the step they made for the spiral staircase looked perfect when it was cut but when they were moving it onto the tower I noticed the end of it was very rough? did they break it on the way...

    Another built in Finally fitted!

After tidying up the shop today I made a start on my next job. It is another built in wardrobe set in MRMDF. It is 13' wide and will house hanging rails, shelving, chest of drawers and pull out shoe racks behind a set of sliding raised panel doors. I started by making the chest of drawers carcass...

    Doll house room

That is absolutely incredible work! I am stunned by the attention to detail in the shop. (Even the shavings under the lathe) :o As for Bill and Ben all I can say is 'Flobalob' roughly translated, Robbed a lot, Anyone can string together a few plant pots and stick a dolls head on them. Not many...

    18mm mdf over a 1200mm span

ideally you would need at least a 2" apron front and rear to prevent (lessen) any sag in that width. Another alternative you could use is to attach a piece of angle iron front and back. Of course you could hide this with a slim piece of wood. Final solution is to make the top as a torsion box...
