    I hate doors!

I got finished late tonight due to being out on a job fitting some doors. I couldn't believe how long it has taken me to fit 6 doors, 10 hours! :o The doors were all veneered oak B & poo specials. I also had to change the position of the catches as the original doors were too low for the...

    A Virgin-free Zone

Yes, I have been thinking of doing something like that for a while Brian. I think I have two e-mail addresses with my web provider so shall gradually change things running both until it's done.

    Oak TV cabinet

I have been lipping the MDF today using solid wood. I am lipping the edges with 10mm strips apart from the top, bottom and shelf which will overhang and have a detail routed on the edges.

    Why I've been quiet

Yes pretty sure. Joints are all pegged M&T's. I have built quite a few of these over the years and not had a problem with them so far. As i stated in my earlier post one set lasted for 10 years without any treatment! I am sure my customers are getting a good service as I still get repeat work...

    oops...

I know the feeling well. Last year I fed the end of my finger into the planer and luckily got away with just a cut on the end. Glad to see you had the same escape could have been a lot worse.

    Oak TV cabinet

I made a start on my next job today an oak TV cabinet. Most of the carcass will be veneered MDF as usual. I am waiting for a delivery of more boards but had almost enough materials to make a start on the front. Using Bob's system I made the shaker panels and drawer front. As you can see I ran...

    Why I've been quiet

I just use a cheap decking oil from Screwfix. It is a thin solvent based oil which seeps in to the wood and leaves an oily residue on the surface. It does seem to work quite well.

    Why I've been quiet

Yup softwood, I have built quite a few softwood gates in the past. They have a clear finish on them which I apply during the build. I give the customer the option of softwood or hard but it is down to cost for most of them hence the softwood ones. Having said that, one set I built lasted ten...

    Why I've been quiet

I haven't posted much recently due to being busy in the shop. So I thought I would just post some pics of what I have been doing of late. First up is another set of gates in softwood. Then a bit of arts and crafts work: This one is for the summer house I built last year. In between those two...

Guy Martin in India on TV

Yes, I was glued to the TV and really enjoyed it. I do hope he gets the chance to ride it from Goa to Grimsby and it is televised, should be some fun. :D

    Opportunity Knocks again

I couldn't agree more, TV is rubbish. What about Gogglebox! who the hell want's to watch someone watching TV?! :o I am convinced that all of the TV companies share the same programs for a minimal cost and just swap them from one channel to another all for a budget of about £100! I guess the...

    Sliding Doors for Built-in Wardrobe

I have used these for wardrobe doors in the past and found them very good. http://www.ironmongerydirect.co.uk/prod ... tem/651627 They are pretty slim too. These are bottom rolling systems but very good quality. HTH.

    A Virgin-free Zone

where have I gone wrong then? I have Virgin TV the basic package, 20mb broadband and the home phone and I pay £59 pm! I have been a customer since it was Diamond cable years ago! I don't have a tivo box or anything fancy and in fact don't even use the TV box as I watch everything on Freeview. I...
