    A few recent jobs

I have been busy fitting doors, fitting loft ladders and boarding a loft but in between I have been in and out of the workshop. I did manage to get some work done on my other jobs. I got the boiler cabinet finished ready for fitting. I also got a door and frame built for an alcove. I started...

DVLA con artists BE AWARE !!!

I am afraid the DVLA are all a bunch of incompetents! My friend sent his licence off to change it back to a British one after moving back from France. (he had held a British licence for around 30 years) when the new licence returned they had missed off his motorcycle entitlement and his HGV...

Best Low Priced Tool you have Bought

My top cheapie tool has to be the Parkside electric planer I bought from Lidl many years ago which is still going strong. Second in line is the Power Pro SDS drill that cost £45 over 5 years ago which is still working well and has had a hard life. Or the lidl wet and dry vac with a power take...

air fed mask air supply requirement

For an air fed mask you will need a compressor that is capable of at least 15CFM free air! if you are also using a HVLP set up then it needs to be even higher. A compromise is to use two compressors one for the gun and one for the mask but this is not always practical. HTH. As for the...

    Best ROS Sander?

Don't ask me! I have destroyed three sanders! Metabo 450 SXE bearings seized and melted the plastic casing. Two air palm sanders threw the veins out! I am on my third air palm sander and so far it's working well and also have a Festool ROS which is faultless.

    Boiler cabinet

In this case I just drew lines on it and then set up a temporary jig on the bench. I pinned down the piece and set up two stops top and bottom. Then I used a square offcut of MDF which I clamped in place to rout each flute. I then just moved the square piece and clamped it for each one. I...

Hvlp lacquer first try - what's going wrong

I don't use water based lacquer myself but from what I can make out on the pics it looks like the paint is too thick. Your first pic does show far too much build on the lacquer which means it needs thinning a little and the flow control needs turning down slightly. Did you also make sure the...

    Boiler cabinet

Got stuck in on this job today. It is a boiler cabinet for the customer with the corner unit. This will be painted to match the other cabinets in the kitchen and the door will replicate this too. This is now ready for the finish. :D

Which first, stain then sanding sealer or vice versa?

Yes I have stained pine a few times and always put a 50/50 coat of sanding sealer/thinner first. this sinks in to the wood and helps even out the hard and soft spots so the stain will look more uniform. I then usually spray a good coat of sealer over this and lightly sand before putting a wax...

    Display cabinet Finally fitted!

Strangely enough it was light teak. This gave the closest match to the units the customer already has.

    Display cabinet Finally fitted!

Well after all the problems with this it is almost finished. I had to screw it to the workshop racking so I could fit the doors and test it all. Glad to say with a little jiggling the doors fitted well. I am just waiting for some blue screw caps to arrive now and it's ready to be delivered and...

    Dementia?

It's ok guys, I have been told the reason for it now, it's the theory of relativity! I work so fast compared to others that time is travelling slower for me hence the reason I seem to have lost two years! Hmm, sounds feasible.
