Pads for chair legs on wooden floors.

I think I got these at Lidl. I fitted them to kitchen chairs that are on a tiled floor and they are really good. They have a plastic base with an incorporated nail. The base has a recess into which is fitted a very tough felt. I used contact adhesive as well as the nail when fitting them to the...

Sold Now sold - Whitehead 3-phase hollow chisel morticer

Massive lump of a machine in full working order. I very rarely use it and am having a clearout. It's already on a pallet so can be collected with a pallet trolley and tail-lift van. Collection from nr. Sevenoaks, Kent. 15 mins from M25 J5 or J6. £300

    Glues

The Semforite I bought came in plastic bags. I put them in a additional plastic freezer bag, sealed with a freezer bag clippy thing and put it all in an old Cascamite tub. The previous Cascamite lasted 5yrs stored in the same way.

    Tack cloths/rags?

I use a shop vacuum with the motor unit vented outside. Seems ok to me.

    +1 for Semforite.

    Model glider mini minimoa

Can anyone remember the maker of the cellophane packaged balsa planes from the 70s? My local toyshop used to have a whole rack, from basic glider to rubber band powered ones with a wire and red wheel undercarriage. Hundreds of hours of fun assembling, flying and repairing

    Meranti double driveway gates

Having just repaired a gate with a insufficient gap between the boards, and biscuits used for the diagonal braces I'd strongly suggest leaving a generous gap between them and bit use biscuits. In wet conditions (like UK winters) they'll swell and buckle if insufficient room is provided...

    Clamp recommendations

I have bought a few of these (loads of similar versions) a couple of years ago. I planed some hardwood so it fitted snugly inside the channel and it stiffens them immensely. They're now still light and very strong. If your joints are good, you shouldn't need more than these on a shaker style...

    Workshop First Aid, WoundClot Gauze?

I mangled a finger in the garden and went to minor injuries. They used a fab stuff called KerraCel to staunch the flow. I bought a pack to keep at home. I've had to use it once since (oops) and it worked perfectly. https://www.wound-care.co.uk/kerracel-dressings.html

    Cascamite

I recently used up the balance of an 5yr old batch of Cascamite kept in vacuum bags. It worked fine, but given the concerns over the current supplies I tried Semforite from www.maragon.co uk. It works pretty much the same and I'm happy with it, particularly for its long open time and lubricity...

Tools that last longer than expected

I've got an Elu shop vac that is 30yrs old. The "auto turn on" feature packed up about 10yrs ago but otherwise its still fine. I've also got a 25yr old Amana fridge freezer that started playing up a month ago. The original manual was incredibly informative about troubleshooting and the sequence...

    Shooting board

I made a ramped one a few years ago. Very useful on small pieces and very handy for perfectly squaring the ends of boards prior to marking out for dovetails etc. Obvs they are useless if they aren't accurate, but that doesn't mean they have to be expensive!

Does a wood burning stove count as a tool?

Installed the backup battery (Yuasa, sealed, rechargeable burglar alarm style) this one and automatic switch this one today. If the 12v from the mains transformer fails, the relay opens and the backup battery 12v is utilised. There is about a 30milisecond switchover delay where no power gets to...

    Opinions on online woodwork tuition

+1 If you're doing it for pleasure, not professionally, take your time. Observing great care in the process will make the outcome more of a formality.

Scaffold board bench all hand tools. Pretty manky and soft timber, but the recipient wanted it cheap, knockdown and light. Wear strip and wedges are mahogany.

Sawhorses to replace manky plastic ones I've had for 20 yrs. All done from rough sawn ash with hand tools only. I'll trim the top with leather
