    Table saw upgrades?

i've recently purchased a Einhell TC-TS 210, and I'm struggling with the fence. Could be my incompentence, or could be the included part is just rubbish and needs upgraded. Anyway, it just don't seem very flexible or easy to adjust, so I think I probably need to consider other options. Any...

    Vacuum / dust collection

What's the point of the cyclone, instead of just a standard workshop / garage vacuum ? I'm not really understandng the benefit

    Battery Fire Risks

I had a battery for my Nikon DSLR explode. It didn't cause much damage, but melted part of the charger. I think the risk is far greater when charging, so I try not to leave bikes / tools on charge when I'm I'm not in the same room, but I probably wouldn't remove them when not in use.

    Solution for awkward under-sink cabinets

We're halfway through renovating our small utility room, We have a sink on the left, a washing machine on the right, the worktop is at a 130degrees angle, and it will extend over the washing machine. I am going to box in the pipework, build a cabinet (in red) for under the sink, and there...

    Vacuum / dust collection

I do most of my work in the garage, and it’s fairly open, so dust is getting everywhere. I have a regular household vacuum and it works well when I bother to use it, but a lot of the time it’s just not convenient, and the regular hose is a bit fiddly because the solid plastic restricts...

Any cheaper alternatives to the Kreg / DeWalt quickflip systems

I'm temped, but at £30 a time I'd probably be better getting another drill. Anyone know of anything around the £10 mark?

Benefits of upgrading blades for cheapish circular / jigsaw?

My current circular, a corded Enventor seems plenty powerful for my needs and should last me a while. My jigsaw, a Parkside 12V cordless seems pretty poor performance-wise, and better blades probably won't help much. Anyone disagree? I've got it mounted on a jigsaw table, so this is probably...

New EU power tool battery rules from 2025

It used to cost £60+ to buy a charger for a Macbook using their proprietary connector. We 'stifled their innovation', and now a £5 charger works just as well. The EU not agreeing on everything isn't a problem. Also known as the 'consequences of our actions'.

Buying cheapest wood for woodwork practice in the UK

It's unfortunate that you can't specify what you disagree with. We're talking about the law, so your stance is a bit odd! Is that because legal definitions carry more weight than 'opinions'? "I can't imagine..." is an argument from incredulity, and that's a logical fallacy.

Rotary tool... Dremel or something else?

I figured I wasn't explaing this very well! So, I have a few Parkside tools, and I was trying to work out a visually pleasing way of storing these as they all have the same profile where the battery fits. I imagined some sort of 'dock' where I could store either the batteries or the tools...

Rotary tool... Dremel or something else?

I'm trying to create some sort of placeholder to hold 3-4 batteries, and would like to cut accurate oval-shaped holes in fairly thick sections of wood. My current cheapo jigsaw isn't deep enough to go all the way through the wood I was using (55mm) , and I don't yet have any circular hole...

Buying cheapest wood for woodwork practice in the UK

Which part do you disagree with? My opinion is based on the legal definition of 'theft', which requires dishonesty, as well as decisions from multiple Crown Courts.

Buying cheapest wood for woodwork practice in the UK

Try Community Wood Recycling I can't speak for them specifically, but we have similar places in France. Most people wouldn't go to these sorts of places because they'd assume it's just for trade customers. The place here gets a lot of stuff from Ikea, such as packing crates, and sell on at...

Buying cheapest wood for woodwork practice in the UK

I believe it's only theft if there's an element of dishonesty. A reasonable person would probably assume that the goods had been discarded and there was no rightful owner, and this would not be considered theft. Alternatively, if the person is clearly in the process of moving house, or If...

What tool should I buy next?

I'm new to woodworking, and fairly new to any type of DIY, to be honest, but I feel like I've found my calling. My previous life as a chartered accountant just wasn't doing it for me... Anyway, I've discovered Parkside, and I've been able to pick up some decent tools fairly cheaply. I currently...

How essential is a wood thickness planer?

I googled RAS and it came up with 'radial arm saw' Thanks for clarifying!

How are you storing your tools?

I originally thought French cleats would be a great idea, but quickly lost interest. I don't currently have a proper workbench, but ideally I'd like a workbench with storage underneath, but my tools are currently just lying in a metal shelving unit we had in the garage for cat food etc. To be...

How essential is a wood thickness planer?

Not sure if you've made a typo or I'm misunderstanding - do you mean sand after using an RAS? I'm assuming an RAS is the same as a mitre saw. Anyway, definitely not averse to a bit of sanding and definitely an option I'd consider. Don't have a router yet, but been looking at various options...

How essential is a wood thickness planer?

I've interested in building a quality chess board and chopping board (for home use), and I've been watching a few videos of folk making these. A lot of them use expensive-looking wood planing machines, and these seem be work fairly flawlessly. Can I achieve passable results with handheld...

Do I need a track saw / table saw?

I currently have a circular saw and a jigsaw, and I want a fairly foolproof way for cutting in straight lines. I've seen various homemade guide rails that people have made for circular saws, and I've also come across these guide rails (photo attached) for £15 each. Am I right in thinking that...
