Buying cheapest wood for woodwork practice in the UK

+1 for sites like Freecycle, Gumtree etc. if the price is free or fairly low, make sure its solid wood though as some people have different ideas on what exactly that is. I've gathered up loads of pine from such places that one day I hope to turn into something useful (very much inspired by...

How essential is a wood thickness planer?

A few years ago a friend - who after watching several YT videos wanted to be a part of the chopping board maker crowd - ran a 8 inch width end grain board through his Triton thicknesser and absolutely destroyed both the machine and the workpiece. I wish I still had the photos he sent me of the...

    Dewalt Bs1310 manual

Is there much of a difference between a Dewalt BS1310 and a Elu EBS3401? To my untrained eye they look similar, maybe these old threads could help (both contain manual links to old models)? https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/elu-ebs-3401-bandsaw.117980/...

    Which nails for nail gun

Apart from the colour yeah it's similar to that one, I cant comment on the compressor though as I bought it standalone.

    Which nails for nail gun

I've got a Senco FinishPro 18, runs off a compressor rather than a battery but despite that it's brilliant.

    Which nails for nail gun

I've used Tacwise brad nails like these for a number of years and haven't had any issues.

    Sold Festool Domino DF500

If there were any bids placed and the auction had more than 12 hours left to run a final value fee based on the highest bid amount might still be charged.

The 5-cut method explained in detail

That's long been my feeling towards the subject - it's woodworking not precision engineering so just how important are those tiny imperceptible fractions in the grand scheme of things. When building my first crosscut sled I only used a reliable framing square which I felt was all the accuracy I...

    Ebay relisting?

The seller didn't like the final selling price, if true then seems stupid to start the bidding so low and/or not apply a reserve. The seller got someone to do some shill bidding for them hoping it would raise the final figure (definitely against the rules). The winning bidder changed their mind...

Amazon Photos: free £15 - what's the catch?

I just had a read of the T&C's here https://www.amazon.co.uk/b?ie=UTF8&node=22944218031 and from that it appears you need to spend at least £30 on "qualifying items" in order to use the £15.

Have I bought a tool with a 240v plug but should be 110v?

Thanks very much for confirming, as I suspected it wasn't what it appeared to be. I'll get it swapped out for something more appropriate and then borrow a transformer to check if it runs, I've no interest in 110v tools so in a way this has made my decision easier about selling/keeping it.

Have I bought a tool with a 240v plug but should be 110v?

I bought a Hitachi M12VC fixed base router nearly two years ago online from a well-known shop that buys and sells second hand goods, at the time of taking delivery of it I did a quick on/off test to ensure it worked and then put it away in my storage unit where it remained until last week. As...

That would be a AW106PT2. I had one but it was Fox branded, a nice step up from a HC260.

    Breaking News: Post Office Scandal

I'm still blown away about how the driving factor behind the government finally doing something about this years-old fiasco has been pressure rather than integrity.

There is an overdue payment under your name. Please, settle your debts ASAP, aye right.......

I don't think there has been a month this year where I haven't received at least one of those emails - just one of many scam emails added to my auto delete rule. Years ago I tried a few times to close my FB account but it never really disappeared because every so often I would get emails...

    Rutlands black friday sale

A few years ago I tried to leave a 1 star review but was told that it wouldn't be made public because of "my choice of language" - the worst I had said was that the item was cheaply made and not fit for purpose. I haven't bothered to order anything from them since.
