    Sharpening

Oh really? I have a trend 300/1000 diamond stone and the veritas honing guide and it still took me a good 40 mins.. When you say energetic, do you refer to the downward pressure applied to the plane iron, the vigour of the strokes or both?! Also would you just grind the iron on the oil stone...

    Sharpening

Sorry if this is already mentioned elsewhere, but is a bench grinder the only way to reset a primary bevel without spending 40 mins using a honing jig on a diamond stone by hand? I don’t own a bench grinder and have been watching Rob Cosman’s video on resetting primary bevels for tips but it...

    Plough and Rebate plane advice

Hi Jacob - managed to pick both these models up yesterday at a good price (I think!). Is there a prescribed methodology when setting them up / fettling? Wondering if there's any consensus on trustworthy youtube guides out there, although both of mine seem in reasonably good condition.

    Plough and Rebate plane advice

Hey Droogs - many thanks for the offer but I’m actually going to collect a couple planes tomorrow. I would have loved that as a project too! Thanks again

    Plough and Rebate plane advice

Morning folks Looking at buying a plough plane and a rebate plane to add to my toolset, but just seen prices on new items are fairly steep and wondered if anyone had any advice about more entry level kit that might do a job in the short term? I found this for instance, but have no idea...

Band Saw & Planer/Thicknesser for hobbyist

Cheers for the lengthy response. I'd assume it'll be one a month maybe, but we will see how I get on - I've absolutely loved making the bench and that's likely the most boring thing I'll be spending my time on so who knows. You're right though - I don't think it'll be many. Yeah, I've a few...

Band Saw & Planer/Thicknesser for hobbyist

Aye - I did think it was too cheap to be any good to be fair, but was responding to another poster's suggestion. Cheers for clarifying!

Band Saw & Planer/Thicknesser for hobbyist

Noted - that was the one I almost bought prior to posting this thread last night actually. Many thanks

Band Saw & Planer/Thicknesser for hobbyist

I just watched the unboxing video for this - looks really good value for money. Thanks a lot!

Band Saw & Planer/Thicknesser for hobbyist

Yeah, I was thinking about this a little earlier - mainly box work, stools etc.. Nothing over 4 feet I doubt, so doesn't need to be too bulky. Circumstance might change, but in that situation, I would likely change my kit to match. When you said earlier combined PTs were what you'd go with for...

Band Saw & Planer/Thicknesser for hobbyist

Hi tom Thanks for the detailed reply. I’m just starting out - did a woodworking course locally and have a number of tools but definitely a novice. I’ve not owned any of the machines before, and have only used a table saw of the 3 machines I mentioned. That’s essentially where I’m at and it...

Band Saw & Planer/Thicknesser for hobbyist

Noted, and good points to consider. I assumed I'd check for twist and fix this with handplanes prior to running through a machine - would this be acceptable?

Band Saw & Planer/Thicknesser for hobbyist

Evening all Just been looking at picking up a band saw and planer/thicknesser. Starting with the P/T, space for big machines is a bit of a problem with me working out of the garage (which is also a gym) so I've been looking at lunchbox style units, or smaller ones at least, especially seeing...

Woodworking Ideas For Gift/Keepsake/Memento for a new baby

Hi alan This is great - do you have plans or are you a dab hand by now with it? I’m very inexperienced I’m afraid so wanting something relatively paint by numbers if possible Thanks
