    Mafell P1cc buying advice

A TV? Some people have odd priorities…

Bad buying decisions or tool regrets

A perceived bargain of a 10” planer (could never get the beds parallel). An Axminster thicknesser to go with it (woeful extraction and horrendously loud). An Inca P/T (nice but too lightweight). A Metabo ADH 260 Magnum (decent, simple machine, but bits started falling off, in use). All...

    Sold Dust/Chip extractor

I’m slowly re-establishing my workshop, in a better space, with more thought to layout, and so I needs fewer extractors. This is a Clarke Woodworker CDE85 extractor, single phase, 3hp. This runs happily on a 13amp plug. It’s had replacement bags in recent years, though you may wish to fit...

In your opinion what's the better P/T - the iTech or Axminster?

In many instances this is not so; either the worn components can be replaced with standard, off the shelf, mechanical components, or in the case of something like a fence, can be substituted with a modern alternative. For example, I changed some worn components of a Startrite ta 275 rise and...

For Sale Axminster/ Yorkleen WV2 dust/chip extractor. OFFERS WELCOME

Axminster branded Yorkleen WV2 twin motor dust and chip extractor. Excellent for a small space, where a machine demands more than a shop vac. The WV2 features a triple filtration system (0.5 micron filtration) along with a noise reducing acoustic hood. It’s a large capacity fine dust and...

Sold Sedgwick ta315 mitre fence (for sliding table)

As per the title, this is a fence for the sliding table of a Sedgwick ta315, in particular, the cast iron table but I think that it could also fit on the more recent, steel tables. It’s the longer variant, intended for the larger table. It could easily be adapted to fit other machines too. £100

    Peoples views on the bay

I’ve had a similar experience of things being “damaged “ in their warehouse; a very well packaged item, that would have taken serious abuse to damage. No proof of damage nor return of item. I also sent a £1500 Garrard 301 motor unit that Evri were unable to track. For these an several other...

    Budget shop vac

I’ve got a Henry that I got from the reuse-recycle place at my local dump, and a big numatic that I was given; both work very well, consumables are readily available and cheap, and spares can be easily got. If you look around, you’ll find plenty for sale secondhand or reconditioned ones for £80.

Wood burning stove for the workshop?

In a workshop, one which burns sawdust/chips, as well as larger off cuts is useful; I fitted one such burner in my father’s large workshop, and it does the job very well. I’ve also boiled kettles on it, and even fried some pork chops on it once. That one is from a company in Hereford, made from...

    Insulating Lime Hemp Plaster

When I did an extension and used lime plaster, from old to new, the building inspector wasn’t interested; it’s plaster, was his view.

    Sold Chisels: Marples, E.A.Bell, Colonel

As my workshop is getting fuller, I’m trying to focus on what I actually use, so this is the first batch of chisels that have sat unused for some time. All are very nice chisels, lightly used. From left to right, they are: Marples mortise, 1/4”, boxwood handle SOLD Maples sash, 1/4” SOLD...

Are Scheppach HM254 mitre saws all the same quality depending where you buy them.

I would always encourage going for good quality, repairable used gear, over cheep new; we should all be consuming less, and you will simply get a better tool.

Charnwood W629 Table saw? 2 buy or not 2 buy.

call me reckless, but if you paid me the cost of the Charnwood machine, I would deliver the linked machine to your door, and help you set it up.

Charnwood W629 Table saw? 2 buy or not 2 buy.

When something such as this is an option, I would seriously question why anyone would choose a Charnwood: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255906724816?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=WFMAbhIfSEC&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=9d_CiZDlSE6&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

    New planer questions

If the fence can be squared to the table edge to edge, then any material that spans the hollow can be accurately machined. However, anything smaller will not have a square or straight reference, so you will struggle. I think the above advice, to get it ground, is the way ahead. If that’s not...
