Microcontroller controlled Iris Dust gate and switch

Further testing I discovered the simply bracketing the inlet and outlet pipes to the wall behind does the trick however I understand this may not always suit so Ill still investigate a self contained fix.

Microcontroller controlled Iris Dust gate and switch

Just reporting back on some quick tests I managed this morning for those who may be interested. Firstly as far as pressure or lack of it for me there is nothing to worry about. When the gate is closed it keeps the pressure high enough in my system. When the gate is open flow is fine and...

Microcontroller controlled Iris Dust gate and switch

Thanks Lard, Space is my real issue until I can convice the better half that an workshop extension is a safety requirement !!, With the blast gates that you mentioned I seen a few motorised examples although for very large sytems they didnt look like they'd scale down very well to the 40mm pvc...

Microcontroller controlled Iris Dust gate and switch

HI Pete, Literally just came off the design and manufacture stage, Ill test it in reality with the chop saw probably in a few days I hope using a bit of really dry chip board to see if it clogs. I dont think it will in my set up at least. Here some images of the open and closed. Ive just...

Microcontroller controlled Iris Dust gate and switch

Just finished this project ready for implementing in my workshed. A 3d printed iris dust gate to work with 40mm PVC waste pipe. You flip the switch and the iris opens, flip the switch and the iris closes. Sounds simple but required the servo to be adjustable (for closure accuracy) and...

    Perform Morticer Advice

Yes I kind of thought so too. I dont need much experience to realise the 1/2" bit it came with was probably a struggle for this machine to deal with. Hence maybe why the thing looked hardly used if a little neglected. Im thinking the the use of smaller bits is the way to go with a machine like this.

Thanks Bingy Man, I did a search but in all honesty a typical "man" search. Found some relevant threads now. Regards.

    Perform Morticer Advice

Hello all, My better half was dropping stuff of at the local recyling depot today and noticed a gentleman about to throw away a Perform Morticer in full working order !!. So being the kind and thoughful person that she is, brought it home for me. Bearing in mind its not a tool Ive used since...

Brace bit in a regular, electric or pillar drill ?

Thanks Spectric, I suppose that opens up another thread of thought on this, wondering what opinions there are with the group....?? In order to get more depth driven control with traditional brace bits would that be worth trying ? Rather than buying new bits and making use of the old ?

Brace bit in a regular, electric or pillar drill ?

Thanks for all those comments. Looking at ways to use the old tools and save my elbows at the same time. I know there are modern bits available but imagined someone had solved the pull through issue with some adapter/ unit. Modern bits are the way to go for speed it seems.

Brace bit in a regular, electric or pillar drill ?

Hi does anyone have some solutions for putting square ended brace bits in electrical drilling tools (chucks). An adapter ? Id really like to avoid cutting the end off my bits incase I want to use them on the hand brace again. Thanks. Jim.

Dust extraction using a bench grinder ?

Thanks Pete, Yes Bill's site is quite a masterpiece and will get some dedicated reading time. This question certainly has attracted some real technical know how from you all. My initial thought was surely there is someone out there who's had make do and perhaps toyed with the idea. Especially...

Dust extraction using a bench grinder ?

Thanks to you all for your replies. Putting design, fabrication and parts aside you've all pointed out many other considersations which Ive not. Youtube has many guides however they all seem way over the top for my needs. Increased time has meant increased use of my work space and the vac is not...

Dust extraction using a bench grinder ?

Hello, I’m considering building some sort of impeller based dust extraction system for my workspace to replace the shop vac. Having looked around for 240v motors I’ve not found anything suitable yet. However it occurred to me the possibility of using a bench grinder as the motor source to...

    Performance Power Router - manual?

Hi All, Sorry if this is an old post and I should be starting a new one. I thought it best to keep within the subject as I have owned a B&q performance power router and table for about 12 years. Recently have came into ownership of several new 8mm bits and after trying numerous collet...
