    Identifying thread size

Get a set of thread pitch gauges to be sure. Get a set with metric and imperial They're cheap enough. Where was the lathe made, any idea? And when? I have an Indian made wood lathe from around 35 years back, that has Whitworth threads on it!

    Shaft coupling

Try amazon and search "Small Universal joint" Sourcing map have 10 and 12mm joints on there. Should be stronger than the spring type I would think.

    Wadkin ags 10 Lock Nut

It's as Austin Branson said. 5/8" (0.625") and 12.5 tpi left hand thread using the dimensions given. No standard for it apparently, at least not going by my ancient Machinery's Handbook (1916) A Whitworth thread that size would be 11 tpi, which would be 0.09" approx. Best bet for pitch is the...

    Wadkin ags 10 Lock Nut

It looks like a "square thread". As already said, it's odds on it'll be an imperial size and pitch. Looks like a left hand thread to me. Measure the diameter, and the pitch, and I'll have a look see if there are details in Machinist's Handbook tomorrow. Shows you how to measure the pitch here...

    quick capacitor question

Got 'em on Amazon for a good price as well, as said you need 50uF, and at least 450V.

Furniture makers, how do you get your customers?

Exactly, it's not making the stuff, it's selling it for a realistic price. I made furniture reasonably successfully for 20 years. A friend of mine at a local gallery once told me that he knew another furniture maker who stopped making simply because he ran out of storage space for the pieces...

    Do you sell your stuff?

Very wise if I might say. I've turned a couple of hobbies into jobs, and if you do, you eventually lose the love of doing it. As you say, it's nice being able to say "Near enough" and packing in.

    Do you sell your stuff?

And that is the biggest problem. It might be relatively easy to make stuff for us who are interested in doing so, but getting a decent price for it is another matter. I spent over 20 years designing and making wooden furniture, so I know what a struggle it is. Galleries selling on consignment...

Damaged 60 1/2 block plane thread - replacement?!

I was simply thinking that if I were making the whole thing, I'd want to be able to try the threads for fit. Especially if they are non standard. In my mind, the threads are near enough so that a similar pitch on a different diameter wouldn't show that much difference in angle on the helix. Also...

Damaged 60 1/2 block plane thread - replacement?!

They both look like a RH thread to me, I thought one might be LH as well but in this case I don't think so. See my other post. I hope I'm wrong actually!

Damaged 60 1/2 block plane thread - replacement?!

I'm not sure about this, but those threads look like a different size to me as already said. They also look the same pitch, but the steeper helix angle implies a double start thread. It does actually look like that, but can only really be ascertained by examination. It makes sense in the the...

    Which vape?

I believe that several of those "handsome cowboys" died from the effects of smoking. Here they are in fact https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marlboro_Man#Smoking-related_deaths I've lost mates. and family to smoking. I packed up 35 years ago. I know the OP was asking "which vape" but personally...

    Digitise slides

Personally, if it's more than a few slides, I'd be looking at something with an auto bulk feed. But you / he needs to be selective on which slides to actually scan. Time for a good sort out perhaps? The slides often need blowing clean of dust and hairs as well. It's quite a job.

    The things you find out....

And they were talking about giving 16 year olds the vote! You have to remember that their "general knowledge" is in that phone. They don't need to remember anything, so they don't. It all reminds me of a long ago read Sci-Fi story where (IIRC) everybody was virtually immortal except for...

DeWalt Powershop DW1501 Radial Arm Saw - Power Issue

Unplug it, and use the meter to check continuity of all the leads to start off with. Not being funny, but you're sure you have power at the socket? If the cables are all OK, then it's odds on the switch as already said. Don't know the specifics, but again as others have said fit a new NVR type...

    Keir Starmer

And yet another U Turn. They're doing doughnuts! I'm not a fan of Labour anyway, but they were supposed to put right all the "faults" of the Tories. Or at least that they and the media kept telling people they had. Instead we have just more of the same (Only worse!)
  17. Amplidyne

    Keir Starmer

That'd be instead of the 50 - 100 years of chaos we'll have anyway? Not that I'll be bothered I suppose after a few of those years,

    Keir Starmer

But then if they're worth more salary in some cases, they must also obviously be aware of the salary for the job they're taking on. I've said many times that it should be a job that's not available to people who want it. . . Surely a criminal record should bar them from the post, as should...

    Keir Starmer

People apparently, "Wanted a change" because "It was time for a change" they were sick of the Tories "Sleaze and maladministration" And now we have Labour doing the same. No real change at all. Great stuff. The whole setup with it's two horse race needs sorting. It's too comfortable for...
