Please help - messed up the floorboards

Liming wax is normally used to highlight the wood grain. A neutral floor oil is what we used, Osmo products are really good, but are pricey. We oiled the floor, and then wiped off any excess that had not soaked in, the oil hardened after a day and can be lightly buffed.

Please help - messed up the floorboards

From your picture, it looks like nice aged pine flooring. Identically coloured and grained planks would look like laminated photographed wood(had some of that in an old house). Tough doing the sanding with an orbital sander. Hire a floor sander, but you will lose probably 1mm of plank thickness...

Newby looking to get into Wood turning with budget up to £650/700

Join your local wood turning society, they usually know of good used equipment for sale. You can do metal spinning on a wood turning lathe using copper and brass. Wood working lathes don’t have a saddle so accurate metal work on a wood turning lathe would be difficult. My friend has used his...

    Riving Knives and Saw Blades.

Thank you for clearing this up, some threads had conflicting advice on using 16mm bore blades with 5/8" arbors. I will stick with a 2.8mm kerf blade and 5/8" bore or reducers

    Riving Knives and Saw Blades.

Hello my new TS1800 table saw has these markings on the Riving Knife and understanding what they mean. 254 x 2.8 x 1.8 45 HRC +- 3HRC t : 2.3 My guess on the first line is a maximum 254mm blade diameter with a minimum kerf of 2.8mm and minimum saw blade disc thickness of 1.8mm Not sure about...

    Any advice welcome

There are several factories in China that build for these companies. They look very similar, different colours, one may specify better bearings or accessories. If you need support, that is where there are differences. The likes of axminster and specialist suppliers have sales staff who can turn...

    Any advice welcome

Where are you based? I would suggest joining a local wood turning society. Go on the AWGB web site you can find what clubs are near you. They all usually have tuition and mentoring by more experienced turners. Clubs usually know where good used lathes are for sale. Not all used lathes are good...

    New table saw? Lumberjack TS1800

    New table saw? Lumberjack TS1800

Earlier in the thread it said the motor speed is 2800 rpm. They must have changed the motor as the label on my table saws 4200 rpm. Why are blades for a 5/8” arbor 2 to 3 times the cost of 30mm arbor size.

    New table saw? Lumberjack TS1800

Just bought and assembled the Lumberjack TS1800 and out of the box so far so good. Bought at the Newark show Saturday and the saw arrived Tuesday morning, one big heavy pallet. The rear rail for the fence is a faff, as there is not a lot of space to get the washers and nuts on the cast portion...

    MFT and torsion boxes

If you use 4x2 to brace the worktop, you can put 20mm holes in the bracing around the edge and this would allow you to put your clamps through the bracing and clamp your work to the top. 18mm ply is not that strong and your clamps will probably damage the edge over time.

    MFT and torsion boxes

I love it when “marketing” apply a name to a product. Makes it seem more valuable than calling it a worktop with bracing.

    MFT and torsion boxes

If you have a large sheet opposite corners can droop, which would be a twist, or in torsion, so technically the box does provide some resistance to torsion as well as other bending forces.

    Newark Show

There was carving going on and pyrography, colouring, Margret was going lots with the minidrill creating textures and filigree work. You could interact with them and have a go with their tools. I watched a steam bending demo on the boat building college stand, so not just turning demo’s...

    torsion boxes, why no triangles?

I don't care about the term, it is just an interesting thread on why things get their name.
