French Import Duties on UK Tools & Machinery ?

Hi Mike, Sautershop looks good & I cannot register with DirectFab just yet as their confirmation email didn't work.. but again, both are 20% more expensive than the UK & money is tight now that I am a "paysang" in France (my own fault entirely & besides the point in some ways) & I want a lot of...

French Import Duties on UK Tools & Machinery ?

I hope I didn't sound unappreciative of your help.. I am, I'm just quite frustrated by it all as it should be just a straight forward purchase. As a coincidence on the BBC today they mentioned trade in 900BC Lebanon which they have documents noting import duties for different items.

French Import Duties on UK Tools & Machinery ?

Surely I should be able to simply calculate any costs in advance, how can any trade happen like this ?? French bureaucracy is mind boggling & so so *&^%$* annoying. If I was due back in my van any time soon I would be very happy indeed ... tools & gluten free Speckled Hen top the list. Saying...

French Import Duties on UK Tools & Machinery ?

Hello, Has anyone in France recently purchased tools or machinery from the UK, if so what were the import duties please ? Also, if Kreg is an American company will that be the actual country of origin & will that add anything to the costs? I am looking to get a decent router table set up at...

Air Tool Compressor Set up Question - oiler & filter?

Artie - that's good to know & saves me some hassle. Do you bother with an air filter ? Lazarus - have you a photo of that set up please ? I cannot imagine what you have.

Air Tool Compressor Set up Question - oiler & filter?

Hmm ?.. Good points. I'll see about doing 2 separate runs as well. I just find it very surprising that not 1 nailer video mentions either. I did some spraying recently & I could see water spurting from a leak on the compressor (not mine) & now I need a nailer it started me thinking.

Air Tool Compressor Set up Question - oiler & filter?

Hello Gents, If air tools require lubricating & protection from water ingress why don't compressors for air tools come with oilers & filters fitted ..& then why do no videos of on site usage show anyone having them fitted either? Is it not as important as the manufacturer's make out? You can...

    Dust extractor automation/remote power on.

Niffty idea. Simple yet effective. At first I thought microswitches weren't the best switch to use due to dust ingress but then remembered my little Record bandsaw had them. I thought Reed/ Magnet switches would be easier & neater too but the NO or NC (not both) option is awkward when MS's have...

New Workshop in a hangar.. questions, questions.

Hello Gents, I moved to France (Drôme) earlier this year leaving behind a workshop I built inside a factory, in Brum, just as the Covid crisis became serious therefore missing out on months of unrestricted workshop time using all the materials I had amassed over the years & had earmarked for...

Kitchen Knife Set - Recommendations Please?

I have 3 knives I use for almost everything. The Global G5 is by far my favourite & 2 (150mm bladed) Sabatier are very nice too - they have lasted +30 yrs but my other half has a very annoying habit of putting them in the dishwasher & look worse for wear now. That's an arguement for later. The...

FTAGH Original Myford ML4 Motor& Pulley

Hello Gents, I upgraded my ML4 with a 3ph motor etc so this is up for grabs. It's done 75yrs so it seems a shame to scrap it. It runs & doesn't sound too bad at all. Collection is much preferred (south Brum) as it is heavy & unlikely to last being posted... but I can be bribed. Tog Other...

    Workbench top?

I got hold of 3 identical, big, solid, beech desk tops & laminated them (with the middle one at 90deg to the top & bottom) then lipped it with some mahogany snooker table "cushion" & an AWO door frame.. It is so heavy I can just about lift it & on a sturdy frame of Larch it does not budge...

Moving to South France - Advice Needed.

At the risk of sounding old, my digestive system really approves of the French way of life, on holiday at least. As for fun.. well, not much happens in Valreas, so I am hoping the quiet life will do me good. I will really miss seeing live bands up the road here. I am not aware of any expat...

Moving to South France - Advice Needed.

Valreas ..well, just up the road. Antibes seems a long way away but there's nothing like a good road trip. I will miss the treasure trove of good quality timber & furniture which is discarded here.

I was impressed by Leroy Merlin until I saw their selection of woodwork tools & machines. I think a shopping spree is called for.. & rightly justified too.

Moving to South France - Advice Needed.

So, you purchased your own container ?.. I hadn't considered that as I thought they'd be really expensive. The quote I have is for a container but they pack it while still on the truck & unpack it again. I'd much prefer your way.

Moving to South France - Advice Needed.

I would much prefer to move it all myself. I moved it all in (over years ) so I can move it all out again. But I did some sums & just 1 trip in a luton van would cost +_ £1500. A removal Co quoted me £3300 (but they haven't seen my workshop !) & would do it all & the paperwork .. but they'd take...
