Wow - that is handsome ! I like the wave-like front handle (?). I also looks like it's a pleasure to use. Very well done. Togs

Floor Varnish flaking problem (?) advice please

Hello Gents, I've finally got round to sorting out the flaking varnish on the flooring at home & because it was not me who applied the varnish I cannot say what state the floor boards were in 13 years ago but as you can see there seems to be an issue with the wood itself not holding onto the...

    New workbench

Hello Dangermouse, That looks good. I bet it's great having a new bench made just how you need it. What is the depth of the top? It looks narrow (which is not a scriticism) compared to what I think I'd like. What was your rational in choosing that size? Togs

    Bavarian style framing trestles

Hello \Steph, They look great- very sturdy & well made. Can you explain why you've made "I" beams instead of the usual single beam ? Are you planning to support a house on them or are normal ones too flimsy? & how they are fixed/jointed to the legs? I ask as I am planning on making some but...

My Pizza oven, and its roof

Very nice ! That puts my old plans to shame.. I had planned something far less grand. What is the wooden piece for ?..it's too thick for a shovel (?)

    blast gate positioning

No probs If only I could source those filters I'd have a go at making my own air filter. I am going to rejig my setup this week (hopefully) & run tests esp on the blast gates.

    'silver' inlay

Maybe: 1) Hire a plasma cutter £135 per week 2) Go to second hand commercial catering equipment auction/shop & buy an old stainless steel table.. the old stuff is very good quality & thick (take a magnet). or check out the back of takeaways/restaurants/hotels/pubs/schools for abandonned kit.

Source of infill bodies or kits

Thanks for the kind offer Richard..I've got all the ingredients to build a Sauno kiln (except time) so green or not so old shouldn't be such an issue as long as I can get the shceduling correct (easier said than done). I thought I'd missed the Mactimbers event.. I'll try very hard to free up...

Source of infill bodies or kits

I'm planning on going down to Brizol in the next few weeks...so then I'll need wood for the infill - any preferences or suggestions please? I have lots of Jarrah, Teak & I think a bit of Mahogany...are these any good? On another thread for wooden bodied planes I was told about hornbeam &...

    I've bought a Peugeot for a fiver.

I chopped down a big apple tree before I got so deeply into woodwork & it went to ..firewood - bugger ! I will be looking out for hornbeam & keeping my eyes peeled for some apple..but I do have a monster sized (& even heavier) beam of Jarrah & off cuts of a snooker table which I think is...

    Infill Smoothing Plane Project

Ahh.. I thought the whole rear infill was from one block..which now that I think about it is a tall order. How is the handle jointed to the unfill? I'm now also impressed by the immaculate working conditions you keep. Thanks for the pics.

Apple ?!.. is it really hard enough ? I've not heard apple used for anything other than smoking fish.

That makes sense. What wood do you recommend? I only use reclaimed exotic/non European wood so it might be a while before I happen across anything too fancy.

    yellow staining in oak

Nice 1 Moz, I don't remember that from the drying books I've read so far. The document does say though that there's a low risk that it can be produced during air drying too so it could be difficult to avoid in the odd batch. Togs

    suggestions for oak backing.

I make my own panels & drawer bases useing off cuts, mistakes & odd pieces of the same wood as that project or a complimentary wood. I cut & thickness to 8mm thick x 60mm-ish wide x whatever length, then router a rebate along the edges on opposite faces & clamp with panel clamps...

    I've bought a Peugeot for a fiver.

Very effective tool ..& good video... why is the plane so short though..would it be too much like hard work otherwise ? Cormier wood ?? Never heard of it but a quick googling showed that it does look like a lot (if not all) of 1/2 eaten furniture & tools down here. It is beautiful but if it's...
