Where to buy CMT router bits In UK or Italy

It could to be fun trying. A bit of research before you go should give you some dealer locations, remember Google Chrome will translate web pages for you. A sat nav with European coverage will get you to their door. Print out some pages of the cutters you want to wave at them and practice the...

Axminster High Wycombe "Festool Festive" 2nd June

To be fair the 'expert' was from Festool and from what I heard did know what he was talking about. I don't know who to point the finger at; Axminster for over selling the 'event' or Festool for not ensuring they had some product to demonstrate with. I think the later may be more culpable. I...

    Timber - learning and costs

If you're not completely strapped for cash, you might find buying a bag of ready prepared blanks from somewhere like Home of Wood* an easier way to get some decent wood to learn with. There's a lot to be said for starting off with some quality, stable hardwood. Dealing with fire wood and...

Axminster High Wycombe "Festool Festive" 2nd June

What a waste of time. Billed with; "one of Festool's leading experts, will be in store to demonstrate the benefits and attributes of the Festool range." "Why not get hands-on experience to appreciate the quality and accuracy of Festool products and find out why they are so highly recommended for...

When did the world go mad for Festool?

I found it all a bit weird when I joined too, there's something a little unsettling when a tool manufacturer starts selling 'fan merchandise'. On reflection, it's just an aspiration to own the 'best' power tools. When I started out, all anyone wanted was Elu kit, now it's Festool. They do seem...

Buying a **** woodworking plane from Dictum

Wow, 36 hours before a **** joke and Jacob butts in and says anything new isn't worth buying. Thread now dead with no really constructive comment then :-(

Buying a **** woodworking plane from Dictum

OK, I stand corrected about the machining. I'm mixing up the jack and jointer. However I can't see the LA jack on Dictum's site, so where is it only 74 euros more than the **** ? The **** works out at £135 delivered, the cheapest Veritas I can find in the UK is £275. and I still don't like the...

Buying a **** woodworking plane from Dictum

The problem with that particular model is that it doesn't have machined sides, so isn't so suitable for use on a shooting board. Another issue is the cruder mouth adjuster on the Veritas low angle models. Plus the jack/jointer planes are quite a lot bigger than the smoothers. The Quangsheng and...

Buying a **** woodworking plane from Dictum

Colour is irrelevant. All I'm interested in is how well it's made and performs.

Buying a **** woodworking plane from Dictum

Has anyone here actually bought a **** woodworking plane from Dictum ? eg https://www.dictum.com/en/tools/woodwor ... =szmoX6-D_ With the only other alternative low angle jacks available in the UK are either poor quality like the Stanley or expensive like the Lie Nielsen & Veritas. With the...

    Turned box

Interesting slide show. I'd, wrongly, assumed you'd made a hollow vessel and cut the sides off, rather than turn the base from a smaller block. A far more efficient method, of course, if one has the skill to do it, as you have. How did you handle sanding the inside surface of the base ?

    Tool week at Lidl

They do the job. Be careful to allow the drill to completely stop before trying to engage the shaft lock when changing bits though. Oh and keep the receipt in case of problems. Lidl will just give a refund if it fails as long as you have the receipt.

    Turned box

I use Adobe Lightroom, but any image editor should help you correct colour balance. Even Google's free program Picassa does a reasonable job without needing too much learning. I'd also suggest trying the auto colour balance setting when shooting to get the colours right when you've so much...

    Turned box

    Sure, but your work is too good not to do it justice with poor photos. Just a simple colour balance adjustment makes it look so much better;

    Turned box

A nice elegant design and it looks beautifully crafted to your usual high standard. For me, I find the figuring in the ash distracts from the quality of the form itself though. The colour balance on the photo doesn't help either, I trust the background should be white ?

    Grinder dressing

+1 same here. Easy, effective and fast to use. Only £1 p&p until the end of the month too.

    End of an era

The only long term sensible approach is to buy your own domain name. Then you have total control and can use any ISP.

Slowing drying of a part turned blank

or just use cling film, then there's next to no 'air volume'.

    The Skew

I stand corrected. 2 degrees ? hmm only just.

    The Skew

To be pedantic, that isn't actually a skew chisel at all. It's ground cutting face is perpendicular to the shaft, so more accurately it should be described as a round beading and parting tool IMHO.
