    Lidl power tools this week.

    Mainly Acetone from the label.

Help please, new Anti-virus (& anti anything else harmful!)

Avast free works well for me here. You need to wade through the offers to upgrade to a premium (ie paid for) version, but the free version IS there for home users. https://www.avast.com/en-gb/lp-ppc-win- ... Apvl8P8HAQ Microsft Security Essentials (MSE) also seems worth having...

Am I now a proper woodworker?

Not sure who taught you that, but it's bad practice for bowl/cross grain work. They're properly called spindle roughing gouges for roughing down spindle work held between centres. Hope the op's gone well and it all heals quickly.

    Axminster

No they don't. I'd guess they either can't agree terms of trade (eg maybe Sorby want Axi to take all their range and Axi won't agree or they won't offer good enough trade discounts/payment terms etc) or Axi don't want to duplicate their own ranges with similar tools (although there's lot of...

    My learning piece thread

They're OK. I got mine following a recommendation on the forum and am very happy with it. It's such a simple design it's difficult to see where you could go much wrong.

    Introduction

Not that I've ever heard of. I would expect that trying to take action against anyone would be exceptional difficult. Then trying to take any legal action would be prohibitively expensive. I would also expect Google to jump in and support any defence action with heavy duty lawyers to prevent a...

    Introduction

That may be obvious to you now, but for a total novice, how would you know ? Not enough people are smart enough to research carefully before trying things out, just look at how many You Tube videos show table saws being used without guards.

    Building floor to ceiling wardrobes

Strictly speaking you should be trying to find a joiner or cabinet maker(furniture maker). Sure you can get things like this made, but as everyone else has said it will be an expensive project. The quality of timber needed to build bespoke solid wood furniture is expensive, the skills needed...

Not so sure about You Tube, there's some very dodgy advice and practices shown there.

    **** Carving Gouges

From a quick look the price difference is a lot less than that. No4 13mm(1/2") Dictum £18.25 Toolnut £22.95 No10 26mm(1") Dictum £27.53 Toolnut £27.20 Delivery; Dictum £8.60 Toolnut £3.70 What is curious is that the Dictum site says the **** tools are made from German steel by HT, but Henry...

Also Axminster offer their own version now too; http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-ev ... e-ax958631 Not as expensive as Sorby, but more expensive than Chronos although maybe better finished.

    Windows 10

I wouldn't say that. Most of those angry about the subscription model have made their opinions loudly heard and now just get on with their perpetual licence versions and are keeping an eye on, and investing in, the alternatives. But we're still pretty annoyed by the policy. Frankly I can't see...

Only for 30 days. It's an upgrade, not an additional OS licence.

    Lumber protruding from car boot?

Be really, really careful if you try this. Make sure that any material protruding from the back can't possibly contact the back of an occupied seat. The consequences of even a small rear end accident* pushing planks into an occupied seat are horrible to imagine. As all the normal safety/crumble...

Let's be Honest -can you even make money from woodworking?

Makers just need to lever their way into the market. London's awash with cash rich investors wanting to spend their money.

I'm sure it will. My wife and I did a course with Chris very many years ago and learnt a huge amount in a short time. I also remember a good lunch at the local preserved railway :-)

    Axminster show discounts

I understand that some woodturning clubs have discount arrangements with Axi. Maybe another tool to use in negotiations ?

How sharp, how often & how?

I'm surprised no one in this thread has referenced your problems to your previous thread about using skew chisels new-with-a-skew-t94185.html I suspect that using a skew to rough out timber will be hammering off the unsupported, decent, edge almost instantly. I've always regarded the skew...

Hardwood suppliers in the South East....

It can be nice timber from there too. As a word of caution; their timber is simply air dried which is OK for most woodturning, but wouldn't really be suitable to use to build a 'woodie' from until after some prolonged acclimation to the workshop humidity.
