Sorby Pro-Edge jig Raiser to overcome catching on switching

£15 into Yandles till ? ;-) I think it's supposed to make life easy for sharpening short tools whose handles would foul the standard tool rest.

Sorby Pro-Edge jig Raiser to overcome catching on switching

It's the accessory Short Tool Platform with Arm http://www.robert-sorby.co.uk/sharpenin ... m-with-arm

Very, very, very annoyed. 2 things.

VW ? I paid a similar amount when I was daft enough to lose my spare last year. What should be a consoling thought is that these expensive keys tied to a single vin plate have helped keep your/our insurance costs down due to the greatly reduced rate of car theft compared to the old and easy to...

    Sharpening band saw blades?

Best take some seasickness prevention pills first, that's terrible quality.

Help please, new Anti-virus (& anti anything else harmful!)

From the link bm101 posted; "I’m firmly convinced that the tiny difference that even the best SSD defragger makes is not worth reducing the life span of your SSD." Just don't do it.

Help please, new Anti-virus (& anti anything else harmful!)

Problems aren't just down to infections though. It's useful to know if the anti-malware/virus software itself causes any problems. In the past some brands were well known for causing slow downs, conflicts or crashes, the problems often being very difficult to diagnose and recognise what was the...

What is the cheapest way to sharpen woodturning tools?

No. Fine for honing up carving tools perhaps, but woodturning tools have a huge amount of work to do and need significant sharpening very regularly.

RUTLANDS - WARNING - POOR ATTITUDE!

I'm not holding them up as a 'paragon of virtue' by any means, just pointing out the error of the quoted poster that suggested Tesco wouldn't care if they were selling products that didn't meet specification. They do.

RUTLANDS - WARNING - POOR ATTITUDE!

Why exaggerate by using the word "all" when no suggestion of that has been made ? Tesco actually take problematic products VERY seriously. They also take a HUGE amount of care over product quality control before allowing it on their shelves and fine suppliers if items fail to meet their...

    computer advice please?

You allowed the system to do that by not configuring the system correctly. If you don't know what you're doing, don't give advice to others.

RUTLANDS - WARNING - POOR ATTITUDE!

He didn't suggest that. It wouldn't be unreasonable to ask if an item met it's specifications and they might only have to look at one or two to see if it was a bad batch. It would have been in their best interest to see if they had a faulty batch of products. It's this sort of poor service...

    Sharpening band saw blades?

For a small 'hobby' bandsaw blades, probably not. A new blade is about £15 delivered, maybe less if you order several at one time. By the time you've either paid for postage each way, or accounted for travelling costs, just taking a blade for sharpening might cost as much, before the cost of...

    computer advice please?

You have a choice. If you don't like what you've done installing 10, revert to your previous version of Windows.

    computer advice please?

Don't worry, it'll be fine on a new system. Don't pay any attention to the opinions of people who claim not to know anything about a subject.

What is the cheapest way to sharpen woodturning tools?

No, read the OP; "good and cheap" not 'cheapest'. In a forum that often discusses the merits of £350+ sharpening systems like Tormek and Sorby Pro Edge, £70 for a good bench grinder IS cheap. It's also a GOOD choice that will be relatively easy to use for a novice. Sharpening HHS gouges with a...

What is the cheapest way to sharpen woodturning tools?

No longer available. Sharpening turning tools on a bench stone ?? possible, but a bit 'hair shirt' and tricky for a novice. A bench grinder is the way to go.

    computer advice please?

+1 I'm gently moving over completely to OO and find it's so close to MS Office the there's hardly any learning to do. Nice and legally free too.

Help please, new Anti-virus (& anti anything else harmful!)

You should. Failure to read what's going on is one primary cause of virus/malware infections in the first place. I wonder how much the UK would have saved if people had bothered to read small print before getting caught for PPI ? The key thing is not to get infected in the first place. Never...

    Lidl power tools this week.

Loosen off that allen bolt (it's not a nut) and there is a small amount of play in the blade. As long as you have a good reference, you can adjust them to properly square. I bought a set, the largest one was a little out, but easily brought to acceptably true against my M&W square, the smaller...

Are radial arm saws not mainstream these days?

Another factor in their fall from fashion is cost. A DeWalt RAS now costs £2.5k+, few stores stock them and there seem to be no advertising for them. When I bought mine over 25 years ago they were much cheaper in comparison with other tools and every magazine had adverts for them.
