    Gout 😥

You should be able to order a repeat prescription via the NHS app. You might also find that if you use the same pharmacy all the time, the pharmacist can re-order for you and may supply emergency supply medicines until a prescription arrives. If you're lucky your GP surgery may still accept...

    Gout 😥

GeoffW is right. Get your doctor to prescribe Allopurinol. I suffered for nearly twenty years, faffing about trying diets, anti inflammatories and avoiding foods with no success. Once taking Allopurinol I've not had a proper attack in over ten years, just the very occasional twinge. Curiously...

    Spindle Wobble - Charnwood W812

Agreed, the body looks true. Could it be as simple as the jaws being fitted in the wrong order ?

Axminster SK114 chuck, would it be overkill for a standard lathe?

Have a look at the Record SC4. You might find a deal this weekend.

Axminster SK114 chuck, would it be overkill for a standard lathe?

The SK114 is certainly a good chuck, and I own one, but it's main failing is that has a fixed thread and can't be changed to other sizes.

Axminster SK114 chuck, would it be overkill for a standard lathe?

I'd suggest that if you want to 'future proof' your purchase you should consider a chuck with interchangeable inserts (Nova, Record, Versachuck) rather than rely on an adaptor. It's possible that a future lathe might not have a M33 thread. There are some fantastic older lathes that are absolute...

    Sharpening wood turning chisels

The 'best' sharpening kit I've used is the Sorby Pro Edge... and I've tried a lot. But if you're on a budget a cheap bench grinder with a set of home made jigs can work fine.

The SK100 is available in M33, no adaptor needed

    Bowl Gouge Advice Sought

I'm not sure recommending an Ellsworth signature gouge to anyone as their first bowl gouge is very helpful. They're fantastic in knowledgeable hands, but potentially 'grabby' for beginners and need a good degree of experience to sharpen correctly. Bog standard 3/8" bowl gouge from any of the...

    Shop locations???

A copy of woodturning magazine will reveal just about every turning shop in the UK. Within reach of Surrey; the Axminster shops have woodturing kit and few blanks, Stiles & Bates near Dover, Olivers woodturning in Great Chart, Timberline at Tonbridge have exotic blanks and a few tools.

So it's back: Britain's Best Woodworker

It's not just about attracting viewers. It's also crucial to have a proven, reliable talent to present a show. It would be a huge gamble to risk using a complete unknown to present a main channel TV show. Mel is a complete professional on TV and has a great reputation within the industry for...

    Chuck jaw advice

I'd suggest that if you were one of his first customers you might have got different treatment to those of us who shopped there later in the business's life.

So it's back: Britain's Best Woodworker

They made sense for their aims. When the lead judge is a designer, not a maker, you can expect design to be more important than skilful manufacture. You also need to consider that the judges will have studied the items made far more closely than we can, so will have a better view of which pieces...

So it's back: Britain's Best Woodworker

Yes, filming would be quite a time commitment, but an on-screen judge would be very well financially rewarded. You could add someone like Richard Finley or Jason Breech to a list of engaging experienced woodworkers too. Having a judge that could actually demonstrate mastery of a skill before a...

So it's back: Britain's Best Woodworker

That struck me as a very poor choice of task. It's more of an art challenge than woodwork. You can handmake a perfect dovetail, but not be able to draw a facial likeness. I thought that it rather revealed the lack of woodworking knowledge in the production team, also shown in their choice of judges.

So it's back: Britain's Best Woodworker

I'm surprised there's been so little comment on the show this year here. I thought it better than the last series, not great, but quite watchable. Not convinced about the winner, but without seeing the final pieces in person one has to trust the judges. One can but hope for an even better series...

    Chuck jaw advice

They're not pretty, but I'm sure they'll work OK. Subtly different dimensions to the Axminster jaws that appear similar, but no big deal. Maybe more prone to rust too if kept in a damp workshop. Toolpost was a curious operation. Good location, amazing range of woodturning kit and the open days...

    Chuck jaw advice

The Versachuck jaws will fit Axminster chucks and are cheaper, but the quality is not as good as Axminster's own. Fairly crudely finished and one set I bought ( a few years back) simply wouldn't fit because the mounting holes had been incorrectly drilled. At least the new distributor will...
