Why do we have so many issues with software programs

It's an easy thing to miss, especially if you don't use many different lenses. On day one of using DXO it started throwing up I need to download xxxxxx lens profiles, most of which were correct. Then as I worked through my library I started spotting it trying to download and use incorrect...

    Parkside/Lidl plunge saw guide rails

Just a note to be aware that if you buy an extra set of guide rails for the Parkside/Lidl plunge saw they won't come with an extra joiner. The parts are spares, not an extension set, so it comes with just one joiner for the two rails. If you want to join them to the other supplied rails you'll...

Why do we have so many issues with software programs

Sometimes. When DXO doesn't support or fails to recognise a lens the results can be worse than others. I use DXO for some cameras and lenses, but not all. I don't find DXO particularly good for post processing generally, it's only strength right now is optical correction. I just run some files...

Why do we have so many issues with software programs

They really aren't. The Affinity suite is undoubtedly good, but they're not as powerful or versatile as the Adobe suite. The poor handling of raw photo files is reason enough never to bother with them. I say that as an owner of the suite and I first used Serif's Page Plus at version 1 in 1993...

Why do we have so many issues with software programs

Just be aware that DNG has many options and has passed through many iterations and not every version is supported by all the software that tries to.

Why do we have so many issues with software programs

The whole point of external HDDs is that they should be kept separate and unconnected except when actually transferring data.

What Router would you recommend for a beginner?

As others have said; start with a 1/4" router and only buy a larger one when you've some experience and absolutely need that extra capacity. The Trend T5EB would be a great starter router, if buying new. An evolution of the trusty old Elu 96 series mentioned above. All the features you could...

Problem with Silver line dovetail jig and Bosch advance trim router

That's what the OP has said. The difficulty he says is getting a 1/2" guide for the router. It may be possible to wrap the 12mm guide bush with tape to increase the diameter as an emergency fix, but that would be far from ideal. It also might be possible to make a complete new baseplate that...

Problem with Silver line dovetail jig and Bosch advance trim router

Not only that, the correct size isn't included. Looking at Silverline's instructions; you need a 7/16th guide bush (11.1mm) it's presumably made for the US market. Which seems to be at variance with your experience too. Get the depth right first, then try to work out where the error is. You...

Problem with Silver line dovetail jig and Bosch advance trim router

Those photos suggest that the depth of cut is too shallow. However if the guide bush doesn't snugly fit the jig and the cutter isn't properly cantered you're unlikely to ever get decent results.

    Series 3: Britain's Best Woodworker

I felt a bit sorry for her with that. She said she hated using routers and she may have been using one she hadn't used before that operated in a different way. All that with huge time pressure and cameras in her face.

    Poor quality from ManoMano

Update: Received a full refund from ManoMano today, so nothing lost. I've probably spent more time typing on this thread that requesting the refund ;-)

    Series 3: Britain's Best Woodworker

I think he must be so prejudiced that the lad admitted having autism he couldn't see past that. It was a tight decision between Nathanael and Jen, but the judges mentioned that the back of her island hadn't been finished. There were also some clear mistakes on the slating on her island, whereas...

    Coronet No1 v new lathe?

Definitely take it gratefully. It sounds a great offer. If you can't fit 48" bars into your workshop, you can either cut them down or get shorter replacements and keep the long ones in case you ever sell it on. However if you can get it in, do so, the extra weight won't be wasted. Electronic...

    Lathe recommendations

Smart move. You could pick up a decent s/h lathe for less than £100 or £500 could get you something really good if you're lucky. If you haven't got any tools yet, keep in mind some lathes get sold with extras that can be exceptionally valuable to get started too. Often being flexible about...

    Lathe recommendations

Also worth considering are the old Tyme lathes, Avon & Cub. Simple, reliable and cheap secondhand. The old Nova belt drive lathes are very good, also the Sorby ones too. I would avoid direct drive lathes as when they go wrong they're scrap. Also run away from the dirt cheap Chinese nasties from...

    Poor quality from ManoMano

Yes, the dangers of automatic translation ;-) The photos on Bangood of that item suggests it's description is likely to be correct. Look carefully and you'll notice that the casting for the chuck mount is a different shape to the Woodpecker original. The price seems more credible for something...

    Poor quality from ManoMano

Assuming I get the promised refund, it won't have cost me any more than a few minutes of my time. The original American item is $640 add shipping, import duty and VAT and it becomes ABSURDLY expensive. Looking at it there really is no reason it should cost anything like that. I got some quick...

    Poor quality from ManoMano

Just received a notification that they'll give a full refund and not to bother returning it. Assuming the refund happens it seems a fair outcome. "reading the description in the link above I was left feeling not entirely sure what parts I would actually be getting, dodgy Chinglish and a complex...
