    Cordless drill

Makita for me, I’m sure other makes are good too, but for support Makita are fantastic Aidan

Just looking for a quick to tip

When you say decent... what part of them is decent if they give you tear out? Speed and sharpness are the two things you need to have right usually Aidan

    Wood filler ?

Pack with sawdust, drip very thin cyanoacrylate adhesive over it, repeat as necessary Aidan

    Help needed please.

Does it go back together with no material missing? If so it’s not all that hard. Looks like loose tenons of plywood have been used, but then with those screws I wonder if you are going to be repairing a repair (which is often much harder), but it could be just a case of taking out the old tenons...

    Clear Finish for exterior use

If you want it to grey.... isn’t it no finish at all? Aidan

    Batteries, heat and wood

Yes, it’s very British... Regulator - “You new product must comply with our standards!” Manufacturer - “What are they?” Regulator - “Not telling you! You must buy them to find out.” Manufacturer - “Ok, which ones?” Regulator - “You buy the first one and it will tell you the others you must...

    Batteries, heat and wood

Amazon give me a voucher each time I bring a safety concern to them!

    Batteries, heat and wood

Yep, quite agree. The fallacy we keep coming across is "we've not got time/budget to do this"... It's not optional and it's also way cheaper to design to conform or adjust your design around the regulations now, rather than fail on spurious emissions later due to that nasty switcher selected at...

    Batteries, heat and wood

Hi Novocaine I believe you are correct, however RichHox is asking about a battery powered lamp, so amongst the many other things they may need to consider LVD may not be one of them. Aidan

    Batteries, heat and wood

Just a note, again be careful where you get your information... People are merrily telling you to comply with the LVD... have a look at the voltage range of the low voltage directive. Also, combining certified components together does not mean your assembly is certified and the really pants...

    Mafell Tools

They’re like Wera screwdrivers, once you’ve used one you won’t want to use anything else Aidan

    Batteries, heat and wood

I think you should be very careful where you are getting your information from. Placing anything on the market (ie selling it, including a one off, prototype etc) may require a technical file and to be safe (which you provide evidence of in the technical file) and necessary documentation...

Warped Wooden Lamp Base - Why?

Could be one or all of what you’ve mentioned. A thin piece like that being heated on one side, I’d expect it to be moving. Veneered ply would be an option that’s more stable Aidan

Garden Gate - design sense check please

Nice design. I’d go for pintel and gudgeon hinges (the ones with bolt eyes) with the nuts buried inside the stiles so you don’t really see the hinge at all other than the pintle and gudgeon bit, though you’d lose the nice adjustment feature of that, I think that feature is more for crude farm...

    Batteries, heat and wood

You’ve nothing to worry about with that arrangement unless you do something really wrong. But as mentioned using a potential divider to dim the lamp is a bit of a waste. Aidan

    Air curtains?

I’ve not tried it, I wouldn’t based on my general experience of design things for clean rooms and operating theatres. In general you want to reduce the pressure somewhere you want the waste to go and let the atmosphere push it in. Trying to blow it will fire it all over the place. We’d use an...

    Air curtains?

Because if you get it even slightly wrong you’re going to be blowing the dust everywhere and making the problem worse and getting it perfectly right is pretty well impossible Aidan

That's a fancy router table fence

Carbatech of New Zealand make (or did make) one with a top bar and sliding fence like that. They don’t export to the UK and had no interest in doing so when last asked, which is a pity as it’s about the best fence I’ve ever seen Aidan

...and back on topic, yes, every winter.

    Temperature & glue-ups

I think that’s an example of ‘just because you’ve got a YouTube channel, doesn’t mean you know everything’ Aidan
