    Mistral Pen

Enough of an endorsement for me to try one, I’m going to have to get bushings too aren’t I?

You are combative with anyone who doesn’t agree with you… ala Screwfix thread. Let me fix the problem, there we go, you can join Jacob.

    Mistral Pen

£22 for a kit, seems too cheap to me. The second they are back in stock I’ll try one, the step behind the grip is a bit undignified, has anyone tried one, how do they feel?

Advice on cleaning up dodgy mitre joints

Ok, definitely the best option then!

    Mistral Pen

I think the Beaufort kits are the highest quality you can buy, but they still aren’t good enough, here’s my daily use pen and after a year or so the platings all tarnished through, they’ve not gotten appreciably worse for the the following few years to now, but I wish someone would make some...

    Wooden Ships

Depends what you like. Maybe if you don’t want to hear others opinions, the internet is not a place to be?

    Wooden Ships

It’s a toy, not a boat to live on or a machine to race… stunning though. Racing yachts are beautifully uncluttered, fold down racks and a single burner stove hanging over the toilet directly above the keel, tape handles to hang onto as there’s no floor… crude, but because of the speed you don’t...

Advice on cleaning up dodgy mitre joints

Inlay a square bead on all edges, mitred into every corner, easy to do with an accurate shooting board and will look very smart if you go for something contrasting like box or harewood

Help to make french doors - without twist!

I don’t make things like this, but that doesn’t seem like much wood for a very structural thing. Are you intending to use the glass as a structural element instead of the wood? I suspect a sealed unit would pull the wood to it if you bonded the wood to it, but I’m not sure that’s done usually...

    furniture and cabinetmaking

British Woodworking was obviously the peak of perfection, especially the articles on sharpening ;)

    furniture and cabinetmaking

I think it accurately reflects what people want to read, based on what you see being popular on forums, YouTube etc… there’s not a lot of content of people making unique furniture, but if you want another mid-quality shed, the world’s your oyster.

My advice would be to look for who owns it first

Record Power TS2 Sliding Table Saw

Apologies, he’s ended up on my Jacob list so I can’t see his posts anymore

    Object weight for material conversion

If you know what plastic it’s made from, you can skip the water play, just use a calculator. 8g of water is a very small volume, your error will be large

Advice - Bosch or Mafell plunge saw?

That’s a good point, the first two will cut the same line on the inside relative to the rail, only the last one won’t and it’s not by a lot. The small Mafell blades are the same kerf be that 12 or 40 tooth with thin plates on all of them… but crikey they’re expensive
  16. TheTiddles

    Removing 1mm?

I’ve never seen the point of a scroll saw… but then, I don’t make anything that would use one. They are very effective at quickly creating reference planes for repeated and/or precise operations, especially with a circular saw and router. Maybe you don’t do that kind of thing? They also aren’t...

    Plane squareness to sole

Me too, I’ve just (re)made one for long grain as I have some tiny drawers to make, I’ve got another large one for veneers as well as the endgrain and mitre one
  18. TheTiddles

    Plane squareness to sole

So a sliding blade with a reference face, and some kind of ability to hold the workpiece relative to it… sounds familiar somehow

    Plane squareness to sole

Sounds like a donkey’s ear shooting board?
