    Outdoor bench slats recommendation

Oak doesn’t last that well, especially in thinner sections it seems a bit disappointing in that respect. Cedar apparently does better, though much softer so if your bench has thin slats it might be a bit too wobbly, mine had huge thick iroko or meranti or similar which had partially rotted so I...

How do these cuts not cause kick back?

And the irony is most “clever” people are smart enough to realise they don’t know everything and think themselves “stupid”, and the “stupid” people are the ones going round labelling people as “stupid” whilst being so themselves, failing to realise how sad it looks to everyone else. Seems the...

    Mobile Base

Are they already on stands? Or do you need those too? Some stands you can just bolt castors to and they’re fine, e.g. a jet drum sander and £8 worth of casters is now fully mobile for me. Pillar drill… high centre of mass, be cautious there.

How do these cuts not cause kick back?

Borderline amusing ain’t it? How do they find the time to make anything between posting so much, ermmm “content”.

How do these cuts not cause kick back?

We could call it the health and safety executive, maybe they could be a government department and have some kind of legislation to enable them to protect people in the workplace… what a bold future you dream of

How do these cuts not cause kick back?

That’s one view. I’m personally quite proud to live in a country where we take the value of life seriously. I’m sure you’re benefiting from that whilst simultaneously deriding it, how fortunate you are to be able to do that. There are some terrible H&S people giving the profession the...

Which tracksaw blade to cut melamine mdf?

Sharp blade, masking tape on the cut line for insurance. For just one cut I’d not buy a new blade, unless it was already blunt

How do these cuts not cause kick back?

Can’t say I’ve ever met young people like that, tends to be the old ones

How do these cuts not cause kick back?

What a lot of angry pixies this has brought out. Yes, it’s dangerous. One day he’ll cut something off, then get sponsored by Sawstop and spend his time promoting that as the solution to his poor technique. Brought to you by the same country that thinks armoured backpacks and curved hallways are...

Do I need to do this glue-up again?

That was too cold for it, however it may be good enough if it was just the surface smears that got too cold. ‘Tis the season… to glue up indoors

    'Best' material for interior cabinet

I’d go MRMDF, though Medite Premier MDF is quite nice too without being moisture resistant. Face frame can be MDF too if it’s chunky or poplar/beech if skinny. For high-wear edges I lip in hardwood like beech so if it takes a knock it’s tougher

    Doh! First aid kit....

Yes, weapon of last resort is cloth. Using non-sterile lint… I suppose you’d be a useful warning to others. I was pleased to see use of tourniquets has made its way back into first aid courses as if you have a really serious one, there isn’t an alternative.

    Doh! First aid kit....

I know someone who did that recently, hospital said he almost lost the finger to infection, antibiotics took him off work for several days and he’s still having problems a few months later and he only needs to type on a keyboard

    Router table flatness

The leaving castings to “season” is an old practice not based on any science, unless you left them to season under a giant magnifying glass the temperature require to stress relieve it would never be anywhere close to the ambient temperature, hence why it’s not done anymore, it just doesn’t do...

    Doh! First aid kit....

St. John’s ambulance have a decent website, I’d recommend several people here have a read, a really good and thorough read, you’re a danger to yourself and possibly others.

    Tool brand recommendations for dovetails

Dovetails are perfectly fine for a bed, depending what you are using them for.

    Router table flatness

Completely flat… Nobel prize incoming, or perhaps a little of an exaggeration on their part. Mine is (by eye) within 0.2mm over the diagonal, there’s a crown over the insert plate by less than a mm, none of this appears to make a difference to my work. As soon as anyone starts saying, flat...

    Endgrain jointed chopping boards.

The reason you don’t glue endgrain is the glue isn’t as strong as a continuous piece of wood. The reason you do glue edge grain is the glue is stronger than the wood, so you’ve lost nothing. That’s all there is to it. Chopping boards are generally not used for load bearing applications. They...
