    Sanding Metal--Which Sandpaper to use?

That abranet disk you tore and now can’t use on wood… rips through rust at a phenomenal rate and doesn’t clog

    Small fitting facemasks

Ah childhood fun, haven’t we all manufactured chlorine gas in our bedrooms at least once? Back on topic, I prefer to extract at source, the noise can be off-putting but a pack of self-adhesive googley eyes can be had off eBay to turn a suction nozzle into a hungry monster that is apparently...

    Christmas period?

Local mother’s groups are one way to advertise, depending on the rules. They’re also a window into an alternative reality, one of our favourite… someone actually asked, “how do you make apple slices?”

Plane blade edge from a Tormek?

The great thing about online forums is you have access to a range of people that you might not usually come across and you could very well be conversing with the world leading authority on a subject. The flip side is you have access to a range of people that you might not usually come across...

Single piece of oak for side table top - cupping a worry?

Good plan, a conservatory is notorious for causing wood movement problems

    Recommended stock supplier?

Depends what you want really. Metals4U is my go to, but then I’m after cut to size extrusion and sheet. If you’re practicing on things, brass is a very poor choice, that’d be like learning to cook with ribeye steak. When I need a little bit of brass etc I go to eBay, usually the cheapest unless...

Plane blade edge from a Tormek?

If you’ve read all that, I feel like you should have a tinfoil blanket and some energy drink like you’ve just finished a marathon, maybe a splint for your thumb

Single piece of oak for side table top - cupping a worry?

Depends on the cut and if it’s uniformly dry throughout and you can keep it that way. Personally, I’d never use solid for a top of anything unless it was pre-manufactured kitchen worktop. Opting for veneer every time with a solid edge. It could be fine, especially as you are not making...

Plane blade edge from a Tormek?

Same people, same content, but it’s nice to have some consistency in life isn’t it? On topic - sharp enough is sharp enough. If you can do what you want with your tools, crack on. If you can’t, sharpen more. If you just want to twaddle on about sharpening, can you add yourself to my ignore...

My first MFT bench and remote controlled shop vac

What are the symptoms of that overdose? An inability to talk twaddle for 90-days and an insatiable desire to wear checked shirts?

Any must watch woodworking documentary movies?

    You mean that’s not fascinating?!

Any must watch woodworking documentary movies?

TLDR: Accidents have been reducing consistently for over 30-years. Instead of yet another thumb stain inducing tirade, have you got some evidence? This is probably a rhetorical question, I recon I know the answer. For completeness here’s mine… https://www.hse.gov.uk/statistics/causinj/index.htm

Any must watch woodworking documentary movies?

I work with evidence that exists, it’s pretty good. You work with whatever you fancy.

Any must watch woodworking documentary movies?

If only there were some form of national accident statistics to confirm that, alas no, all we have is 40+ years of evidence to the contrary. back to the topic… I find the best content is on YouTube, many makers of trivially simple simple things if that’s your bag, a few really high end makers...

    First time edge glueing boards

That 4mm is a lot, unless you are working in narrow pieces I’d get them flat first. Are you after pre-coated steel? If so when you cut it, there will be an un-coated edge which is a bit naff. Better off making the steel section you need and having it coated, it’s not costly, but round the edges...

What joint to use on my first cabinet?

If your starting material has been used for gardening, I’d just screw it together and not bother with any additional process

    Repairs to butcher's block

Cannon mostly had the reinforcing hoops cast into them for several centuries after the built up barrels were superceded by castings, despite it not only not helping, but actually making them weaker. Just because it’s always been done, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

What joint to use on my first cabinet?

Lap joints could work, given that it looks like a seat, without a back it may rack and break under load, so maybe plugged screws would improve it and make assembly easier. The rebate doesn’t need to be a lot, maybe 1/3 of the board thickness at the most. But given the cost of materials you are...

    Repairs to butcher's block

Distance selling laws come in here. It’s a rubbish build, look where those screws are on the end of the board not to mention the stonking gap, who did you buy it from?
