    It must be windy....

Cats become more savage ( si, si, there is such a thing as a more savage cat ) on windy days, they spend more time with their ears flattened and do more of the semi sideways running dance to chase stuff. But, if there is rain with the wind, they stay inside if they can.

And CO2,( to make the bubbles ) hence they are referred to as "carbonated drinks" CO2 in water makes a dilute acid, although I agree, phosphoric is what gives the "tart"ness. No H3PO4 in moss run off ( or in waterheld in the spongyness of moss ) water.

Alibaba ( and express ) but not Banggood have decided to apply geo-ip based language forcing, at least to France. So when I search them, unless I use a VPN in an anglophone country, they insist on giving me incredibly badly auto-translated ( from Chinese , via English, into French, results . I...

You seem to have missed ( in your haste to rant ) the title of the sub forum "general chat off topic".

Re "driving kids to school" ..When I was in the UK a good mate in the police told me that when they do traffic stops near schools they find that around half of the "moms" driving have no licence, because of the "honey, can you take the kids to school", "Honey" rarely drives far, so either...

I have driven a Twizzy and an Ami ( I once owned a Messerschmidt kabin roller, red plexi hard top ), I felt safer in the Messerschmidt. I wouldn't like to be hit by anything heavier than a fieldmouse or a sparrow in a Twizzy* or an Ami.. But I do agree with the point about modern cars being...

    Have you noticed....

My "pet hate" re "modern cars" leccy or otherwise. The always on LED ultra bright running lights that are at eye level, when oncoming, or in your rear view mirror or side mirrors dazzling you and killing your night ( and even day ) vision. When LED running ( side ) lights were an after market...

The french don't have jay-walking, they '(even the police and the gendarmes ) just ignore pedestrians on zebra crossings and drive through, if the pedestrian is lucky , they swerve around them.

    Grass

@Titan_uk I like Welsh slate, the manganese in the stuff around Barmouth and northwards from there gives it a beautiful slightly green sheen when dry and deep blue-green dark grey near to black when wet.The older slate here has similar colours, but the newer stuff is not so nice and doesn't...

My friend ( Botanist ) and ex director of some of France's biggest national parks ( many of which include slate roofed buildings ) and who currently lives around 400 metres from me in a slate roofed house, agrees with me. He is still an official advisor on botanical matters to the French...

Here the Twizzy and the Ami are known as "organ donor cars"..you do not want to be in one in an accident at all. leccy scooters are being banned in many french cities and towns..Paris just voted a ban for the rentable ones.

Lidl PPTSA 20V-Li cordless plunge track saw. Quick review.

@clogs .. I agree with most of what you say about France, but SWMBO is French, and this part looks like Ireland (ish) so... although there are far more friendly parts of France to be a foreigner in. Plywood is still horrifically expensive here compared with UK, although when we lived near St...

Lidl PPTSA 20V-Li cordless plunge track saw. Quick review.

Ah, just realised that I forgot something. The Lidl saw also has an "app" ( I forgot to mention it because it will be a cold day in hell before I install some company's potentially shonky data grabbing software on my phone) ..fortunately the saw works 100% perfectly well without the app.What...

Minimum Atmospheric CO2 percentage for plant life!

@deema Dinosaurs,( giant reptiles ) , giant plants and giant insects did just fine back then with that atmosphere and those temperatures and other conditions, we would not. 3 million years BC was not a documentary, Jesus did not have a pet dinosaur. Nor did / do he or "his dad" exist either...

Lidl PPTSA 20V-Li cordless plunge track saw. Quick review.

I mentioned recently, in a different thread, started by Adam, that Lidl in France were selling a 20V battery powered plunge saw ( in their performance range ) for €139.oo on 10.04.2023 ( Easter Monday ) , well I bought one on the Saturday 9th April.A guy I know who works at our local Lidl said...

    Viceless workholding

I've got one ( which like my bench grinders and many other tools ) is attached to a piece of plywood, which is clamped to the bench when I need it , and lives on a shelf when I don't. My bench isn't just used for woodwork, some things the vice would get in the way, or get damaged. I have more...
