    Rees Smug thinks so...washerwomen..kids up chimneys..oiks who know their place.. my first washing machine in the UK was a tin bath, then later a machine with a mangle ( which granny was always very careful leaning over ) , then a twin tub.They all had hot and cold fill.

    It's a bit of a "marmite" the smell of creosote*..then again there are those philistines who posit that marmite ( luv it, luv it, luv it ) and creosote are the same thing. * quite like it..maybe it is an age thing ?

    Listening to the sound wood makes when knocked is ( I have found ) a very good guide as to how dry it is. Knocking on it with a tuning fork and then placing the base of the tuning fork on the end of the log will tell you a great deal about the grain of the log. So, Spock was an ace woodworker...

    To buy completely ( as spare parts ) the average new car ( non leccy ) would cost about 7 to 15 times the cost of the car . probably the same for most things nowadays. Good point Phil.

    Two part catalized polyurethane varnish.The kind used on metallic paint cars..Any motor factors will have it. you'll need some "diluant" too , the kind that matches the paint, The paint supplier will advise..get some recycled diluant too for cleaning the spray gun..recycled is much cheaper than...

    So many situations that it is still appropriate to since they performed it.. I'll bet the guy who came out to do the repair ( and his bosses ) would have no idea who they were...so many things being forgotten..

    A project with wood log slices... Some questions.

    Removing the centre areas ( where the pith is ) from your rounds will give them a smaller chance of cracking, ( cracking is due to uneven drying rates of the different parts of the log ) but all wood will crack a bit.I've got some 1 metre diametre oak rounds an some 10 cm diametre oak rounds ...
