Re training to be a Carpenter

I work as a pro woodworker. I would rather employ someone who i get on with rather than someone with all the qualifications that I didnt get on with. Obviously having some woodworking talent would help and the ability to do the work. I wouldnt look for a specific grade or qualification just...

I would probably just live with it if it doesnt affect the performance. Removing more metal could make the tables inaacurate. jon

Cut stringers for stairs - which cutter?

Hi Mark I have done a few of these staircases. Cutting the bevel is fairly straightforward with one of these cutters. http://www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/Onl ... ve_80.html You need to get the bearing for the cutter. A piece of mdf clamped along the line of the riser will act as a guide for the...

I usually get mine from ids as well. Another option if you only want one sheet is Jackson building centre which have a branch in newark. May work out cheaper as they order from ids at a discounted rate and you probably wont have to pay delivery. If you get to lincs (boston area) anytime i have...

Cut stringers for stairs - which cutter?

I used to buy expensive cutters for stairs but now use the perform ones from axminster which are really good value for money. http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Perf ... -33208.htm. You can get at least 2 full staircases out of a cutter before it goes dull. 12mm deep is about right for the...

    Beech Kitchen Chair Question

For ease of application and maintenence you could just wax the chairs. If you use Liberon black bison wax in neutral it will preserve the natural colour of the wood and not make it go yellow. Wax obviously isnt the most durable of finishes but 3 or 4 applications should provide a fairly robust...

    Festool Domino advice Please

An assorted box would be a good idea the same selection as you get in the systainer kit without the cutters and the systainer. I found I used these up pretty much at the same time. One of my suppliers Hafele lists the individual packs at 6.50 each plus vat if you buy 5 packs or more but never...

    Limiters ?

According to the HSE using a powerfeed or sliding carriage on a spindle moulder is classed as handfeeding so limited projection tooling is required when using a powerfeed. A non limited block can only be used in a planer moulder. Jon

    Festool Domino advice Please

In my opinion its not worthwhile milling your own dominos unless you have loads of spare time. The ones you buy are very accurate and have the grooves for the glue.

    Festool Domino advice Please

I have had the domino for a couple of years now. I use the 5mm dominos mostly for carcase work in MDF and MFC. For solid timber i tend to use the 8mm Dominos. The 5mm will be too small for some applications but you get the cutter with the machine so it makes sense to use it. So 5 and 8mm cutters...

    Planer jig

I just reference of the outfeed table and set the cutters so that it carries forward a straight edge 3mm. I cant alter the outfeed table on my P/T as its fixed in place so its the only way of setting the blades. Altering the outfeed table to suit the blades seems a lot of work to me. jon
