I think its an improvement brad. One thing i have noticed is that from reading parts of the text it is not clear whether you are 2 separate businesses or you are in partnership. cheers jon

    Draper bandsaw

Hi Mailee. Whenever I have needed to replace a drive belt I have been able to get a replacement from my local engineering suppliers so it maybe worth checking out any that are local. I think you will need to know the cross section (usually a letter i think A B C D) and a length. Easiest way...

    Bandsawn veneers

You cant beat a vacumn press for laying veneers on a small scale using pva, titebond or cascamite. If you want to experiment you could use hide glue and a veneer hammer For bandsawn veneers i usually cut the timber to about 3mm and sand the faces smooth on a drum sander with the veneers fed...

    Osmo oil not drying

For exotic woods osmo reccomend polyx oil extra thin which is supposed to penetrate oily or dense woods. This could be your problem. Details can be found on the 2nd page here http://www.osmouk.com/sheets/polyxcolourless.pdf Jon

    Jonnys workshop tour

Its not too cold in the winter I've worked in colder workshops. The office is heated and is usually at 20 degrees throughout the winter so you can go in to get warmer and leave glue ups etc in there to go off properly. In time I am going to line and insulate the roof but that is next years...

Bath Panel Construction - Now Finished

As you havent got a long mitre on the upright boards could the bottom just be a buttjoint. Any movement due to moisture will not open up the joint. You could use a mortice and tenon or a biscuit if there is room or alternatively pocket screw with epoxy resin glue. Jon

    Jonnys workshop tour

Thanks for all the replies. Ed - The dust extractor has to be turned on and off at the machine. In reality it gets left on until someone realises its still running. Rob- It gets a little chilly in the winter but the woodburner keeps the area near the bench toasty and raises the temperature...

    Spirit level ?

I use stabila and they are very good. Its worth checking your local builders merchants etc as they can often be bought at a good price for a set of levels when they are on promotion. I think I paid about £40 for a 6ft, 3ft and a boat level. Jon

    Jonnys workshop tour

I have been sorting out the workshop for the upcoming bash on Saturday and as it will probably never be as tidy as this again I thought I would post some pics. General aerial view from on top of the office General View Planer and Bandsaw Spindle Moulders and Table saw with tooling wall...

    edge jointing jig

Hi Karl I made something similar a few years ago mainly for shooting veneers but have used it for solid wood and it works great. I made a pressure beam from angle iron and use M12 bolts to apply pressure so the veneer doesnt move and is under pressure whilst being planed. Jon

    Gun Box Now Fitted

I thought purdy made paintbrushes :D Nice box. Is it permanently mounted in the back of the truck. My only concern would be that the veneer edge detail on the top to the box could easily be damaged if things get placed on top. Jon

    old Wadkin Thicknesser/planer trouble

Hi there are a few things you could check. The rollers could be all gunked up and resiny if you use a lot of softwood and may need cleaning. The cast iron bed of the thicknesser may need waxing to reduce friction and make feeding through easier. The feed chain may have broken so there is no...
