    Kitchen WIP- Virtually Finished

Been cracking on with this. I have assembled the base units using dominos and carcase screws. The face frames are also dominoed to the carcase and the face frames are pockets screwed to the carcases. I dont bother screwing them on until they have been painted as the dominos hold them on fine for...

    Bleaching Wood

Hi Brad The A/B bleach is stronger than the oxalic acid. The oxalic acid is better for removing stains watermarks etc wheras the A/B will change the colour more evenly allowing you to stain to a consitent colour. I think i would use the A/B mix myself. The process for the A/B bleach is let...

    Kitchen WIP- Virtually Finished

Been doing a bit more on the kitchen. Started off by setting the machines up to make the doors. The tenons are cut on the tenoner giving a 6mm X 16mm long tenon. The sedgwick spindle moulder was set up for grooving with a zero clearance fence. Because the Ash can tear a little when...

    Kitchen WIP- Virtually Finished

I often use satin chrome butt hinges but these ones are going to be on concealed inset hinges. Some of the frames are flush with the inside of the carcase because there are drawers inside the cupboard and it is easier to fit the drawer runners this way. These units will have a normal mounting...

    Makita BO6040 Sander

I have been contemplating the purchase of a festool rotex mainly for use on solid surface worktops. I have come across this makita at about £200 cheaper which on paper does the same thing as the rotex. juts wondering if anyone has used one and any views on it really. Cheers Jon

    Snapped router bit

I have had a few of the replaceable blades break while using mine but i would have thought thats its more likely a fault in the metal to have the cutter snap like that. I have had a few 1/4 inch cutters snap on me but never a 1/2 inch one. Cheers Jon

    Kitchen WIP- Virtually Finished

I have had a little break from this but I am back on it now. Started of by jointing the carcase components. The domino is turned into and aeroplane by adding the cross stops. Using these means that you can work all the components without any marking out. carcase ends are jointed with the...

Process for a small veneered panel

I pretty much use pva for all my veneering and must have done hundreds of panels. You need to use a D3 or D4 grade to avoid creep and you need to get a thin even layer of glue down quickly. I use a pizzi gluing roller but you should be able to do a small area with a mini gloss roller. I always...

    Oak french doors

Thanks for the comments. Matty - The finish is satin yacht varnish as the customers didnt like the darkening of the light oak sikkens that I usually use. John - The doors were glazed before fitting but the top light was glazed on site so that the frame could be fixed at the top and the top...
