Scrolling newbie could do with some help

Fretsaw blades are 5" long and standard but what folks are saying is that some saws do not take standard fretsaw blades without modification. A lot of cheaper saws such as the Clarke (also sold under many different brand names) only take pinned blades which are like coping saw blades only...

    Ripped off

As a matter of interest I have been a specsavers customer for quite some time but I think they are getting a bit pricey now! I have bog standard lenses but to get a decent pair with spring-back hinges the minimum was £85 so I ended up buying a cheaper £25 pair just for now, I found a place...

Reverse Tooth v Ultra Reverse Tooth

Personally I don't rate the Olson blades, when I bought my Hegner Roger Buse who owned the UK Hegner distributor at the time sent me some free sample Olson blades, I tried them but never found them any better than the cheaper Niqua blades, the Olson blades as supplied were very shiny but after a...

Reverse Tooth v Ultra Reverse Tooth

I don't understand why you paid Hobbies £6.95 for delivery for Fretsaw blades unless you specified Express delivery or had something else on your order, their normal delivery charge for fretsaw blades is £1.95.

Reverse Tooth v Ultra Reverse Tooth

Just noticed that Hegner do now stock a No 00 (2/0) reverse tooth blade, they did not list them last time I ordered. As I mentioned before the 00 blades are very delicate and only suitable for very detailed work they also break very easily! Mikes workshop list reverse blades in sizes 00, 1, 3...

Reverse Tooth v Ultra Reverse Tooth

Up until late last year I have always used the standard reverse tooth blades from either Hobbies or Hegner and always found them perfectly good, after reading about the ultra reverse blades here I decided to try some. If I am honest I have not noticed any difference between the standard reverse...

    New saw advice

And looking back at said post I can confirm that you did. (hammer) In which case considering that mine does not have said rotating part and that I have never had any problems with twisted blades when tightening perhaps Hegner make too much of this 'rotating wonder'!

    New saw advice

Actually, thinking about it, I would say that the rotating part is more to do with stopping the blade moving out of line in the clamp as you tighten it!

    New saw advice

As I mentioned my clamp does not have it and works well without but I do see the point of it. The best saws have a true parallel action which is not 100% possible with the blade fixed in the top arm so with the normal Hegner clamp the knife edge allows the blade and clamp to pivot slightly and...

    New saw advice

My Hegner quick clamp does not have the rotating piece in it but I have never found it's absence cause any problems. I bought my Hegner in 1999 so it may be an earlier design quick clamp.

Hello Pedro Welcome to the scroll-sawing section! I have been to your site many times and find it most interesting. I am a bit of a addict in the subject of the Hobbies and Handicrafts companies and have been collecting their stuff for the last 50 odd years. I was most interested to see the...

Is variable speed essential? No Does variable speed make your scrolling experience much better? YES! (hammer)

    Hegner single or variable speed

That is a good point! Buying a Hegner is like buying for life, it's not like it will only last a few years then you replace it so you only really get one chance to buy what you want. In any case the extra you pay for variable speed will soon be forgotten whereas if you buy the fixed model and...

    Hegner single or variable speed

I am sorry to upset the apple-cart but personally I would say that the variable speed is well worth the extra cost, I have a Hegner Multicut 2S and a Diamond fretsaw, both are variable speed and I rarely run either at Max speed unless of course I am cutting thick material. I find the variable...
