    New batch of FD blades

Indeed, I had not used FD blades before but as you say the Niqua blades had to be changed because they became blunt whilst I found the FD ones keep snapping, actually I am reassured that others had the same problem because I thought it was just me and that I was doing something wrong!

    Second hand saw thoughts

Have to agree, I always remove the blade guard and have never used or needed a hold down.

    New batch of FD blades

I reported here some months ago that I was having problems with my FD blades breaking much more than usual. I have used the Niqua blades from Hobbies for many years without problem.

    Mitering corners

IMHO The mitre is the most difficult joint to get accurate, as Marcros says the angle have to be exactly 45 deg any cut that is not will mean every corner has gaps likewise opposite sides have to be exact or you get the same gaps. I can say that over 50 years I have struggled with doing mitres...

    Second hand saw thoughts

I agree with Martin, I have a saw exactly like this one but with a Wickes badge, it cost around £35 when bought and was given to me by a friend, It works in that it will cut wood but it's more like a motorised coping saw than a fretsaw and is hopeless for doing decent fretwork, IMHO it's more...

Axminster flogging a sample scroll saw on ebay

Ebay was once the domain of essentially private sellers but it has gradually been taken over by commercial and retail companies, private sellers are still there but they don't receive a great deal of support from ebay who prefer the businesses now. A lot of the businesses are based in China so...

    Ryobi 16" scroll saw

Sorry I don't want to upset you but personally I would not buy that machine for scroll sawing. it looks to me like a badged copy of a machine that has been sold under a multitude of brand names including one that Wickes used to sell at around £35, I know because my friend bought one and gave it...

Axminster flogging a sample scroll saw on ebay

These are called Rigid arm saws, the arms remaining stationary, the problem with this is that the blade tension is not consistent throughout the stroke, the only real advantage of this type is that the blade is always square with the table but there are lots of disadvantages.

spare parts for a diamond scroll

Carbon brush series wound motors are always harsh and noisy, Hegner use an induction motor which is much smoother and quieter. Series wound motors are used generally in cheaper machines, the speed of a standard induction motor is fixed around 1400rpm depending on the supply (some are double this...

spare parts for a diamond scroll

If you do need Carbon brushes these carbon brushes should fit your Diamond motor http://www.amazon.co.uk/Carbon-Brushes- ... B003FTQYLM They are listed for Servis twin tub washing machines but the motor fitted to the Diamond fretsaw is the same Carter Romford motor fitted to Servis twin tub...

spare parts for a diamond scroll

Have you taken out the brushes and checked them, if it is the carbon brushes that is not really a problem, the Motor used in the Diamond was normally what we called a Carter Romford motor, are the Bakelite brush caps the external screw over types about 5/8" dia?

    Upgrading a tredle fretsaw!

This brought a smile to my face, for sale on ebay a Hegner but look at the stand! It's the leg unit from a Hobbies A1 Treadle fretsaw, so that's how you upgrade an old fret-machine! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hegner-Multic ... 461eb67163

spare parts for a diamond scroll

I don't think you can get many parts for the saw now, they were made and sold by Doug Woodward (a very decent chap, I had several conversations with him) who sadly passed away in 2008. I have a Diamond that I bought from him and it is a very good machine. What parts are you looking for?

    Outrageous

Wages may be higher than Taiwan in Germany but that still does not justify the outrageous prices that Hegner charge, some of the spares prices are quite ridiculous, when my on/off switch packed up the cost from Hegner was £24 + P&P now this has nowt to do with wages being higher in Germany...

    Scroll saw blades

Blades are normally sold by a number such as Grade 7, Number 7 or just 7, common blade sizes are 9, 7, 5, 3, 1, 0, and 00. 9 being the heaviest and 00 very fine. blades are available from as high a number as 11 (10teeth per inch) right down to 00 (which are 27tpi). I normally use the reverse...

    Thank you Hegner!

Many thanks Matt for clarifying that. Perhaps you will be kind enough to pop in to this forum from time to time to offer the occasional support? We do have many satisfied Hegner owners here who are very genned up on Hegner fretsaws and give excellent advice to others who need it but it is...

    Hello from Newbie

Will look forward to your review, it's always good to hear reviews about different makes of fretsaw from people who actually use them. :)

    Thank you Hegner!

IMHO that is bad business, did you actually try phoning them and asking if you could order and they would honour the discount? The whole point off offering a discount is to increase sales and most decent companies would offer the discount after the deadline date as long as the order was placed...
