Shhhhhh - dont tell everyone but

Coley, Toesy posted the link here to try to do someone a favour of getting a saw at a special price and after all that's what the forum is all about; helping others, yes it can be annoying if you have found something on ebay that you feel is a bargain and someone brings it to everyone's...

    ...........

Magnifying glasses are (IMHO) awkward to use, for one thing you have to get them fairly close to the work which sometimes means the top arm hits the glass, also the angle of the glass does not make it that easy to follow the cut line so most of the time I use the mag light just as a light...

Shhhhhh - dont tell everyone but

Hi Toesy Don't worry I am not offended, annoyed or bothered, the saw came up in a search for scroll saw, anyone could find it, I was watching it but did not bid, I would have only bid if the price had stayed low and I realised that it would most probably have gone out of my price range. Nowt...

Scroll saw table at an angle or flat

That is indeed worth pointing out. The magnifying lamp I recently bought from Maplins comes with a hinged cover for the Mag glass and now I realise how worthwhile that is. :)

Shhhhhh - dont tell everyone but

Thanks for the kind thought but I have to be completely honest I was perhaps being a tad greedy, I do already own a Hegner, I had spotted this one and added it to my watch list before it appeared in this thread, Being fairly local to the seller I thought it would be handy as a second machine for...

Living in Gloucestershire I was getting ready to place my bid! Not at £200+ though!

Seller now removed listing! Did someone here tell the seller about the spelling? :(

Is this saw worth a punt?

Yes that is odd! it's covered in thick dust, surely it would be sensible to give it a quick clean before taking the photo and it would more likely sell! One could argue that if they could not be bothered to give it a clean would they be any more bothered to help if one had a problem with the...

Scroll saw table at an angle or flat

I have always had my table fully level, to be fair I have never tried using it with the whole saw angled but reckon I would find it awkward? :)

Is this saw worth a punt?

Doris this one looks similar to the one you posted (it's in Kent) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/22inch-scroll ... 3ce5cfaf7e

Is this saw worth a punt?

That looks to be a good deal if they would accept £90. I realise that Record did not make these but they did put their name on them, perhaps they still have a few spares in their stores? In any case it might be possible to fettle a new lower clamp oneself? :)

Is this saw worth a punt?

You really do have a 'bee in your bonnet' about this don't you! I am sure Doris can decide for herself but for the Record I am not deaf but in any case I could read the message even if I was but TBH I think it is a bit insulting to suggest that I don't give a monkeys (to use your words) or be...

Is this saw worth a punt?

If it annoys you that much I will willingly remove the link to the saw though even if it 'hinders' Doris someone else might be interested! I can't really understand why you are making an issue of the post? Doris does not appear to be too bothered by it!

Is this saw worth a punt?

Have I actually done any harm by simply bringing a decent saw to a persons attention? Quite often people post here with a budget price of what they wish to spend but then end up paying a little more for a much better saw. The saw is a top range saw for what seems to me to be a pretty decent...

Is this saw worth a punt?

I presume this one is out of your price range? [Link removed] Only they do say open to offers, it's in Essex and it's a well built quality saw, It has Record branding but I understand it was made for them by RBI Hawk a quality US maker. Variable speed too!

Is this saw worth a punt?

I would not consider that one Doris, it's basically not much better than a toy IMHO. 'Tinkering' with a scroll saw could mean not much more than giving it a clean, some oil and a bit of adjustment, by their nature scroll saws don't do that much hard work of get abused as much as other...
