    scroll saw blades

I have used Nigua blades form Hobbies for many years always found them very good. :)

    scroll aw blades

Once you get going you will find blades wear out rather than snapping. Once this happens you know you have 'cracked' it. :)

    Hegner development

It just a little lever that I added to the knurled knob on the quick clamp to make it easier on my tired fingers. I cover it in my videos.

    scroll aw blades

I had the same problem with these a few years ago, everyone I tried snapped near the clamp very soon after I started to saw. Perhaps they had a bad batch?

    scroll aw blades

Not sure if I read this wrong but in the first comment it shows Hobbies out of stock of blades yet to it looks like most sizes are in stock? https://www.hobbies.co.uk/yellow-label-fretsaw-blades-various-grades

    Hegner development

The mod on my quick clamp makes a big difference especially if you are doing lot's of internal cuts.

    Hegner development

FWIW When I bought my Hegner 23 yrs ago I bought the different clamp sizes but they don't seem much different to me and I use any one with any blade without issue. :)

    Hegner development

If you are using the quick clamp (essential IMHO) then you only need one blade quide on the table, the blade then staying in the machine and refitting the blade in the top (quick clamp) each time you refit takes but a second and is so easy you can do it without looking. I have never in 23 years...

Is this a Hobbies fret saw?

Removed my reply as message I replied to was just a copy of one posted almost 3 years ago rather than a new enquiry.

    Record bandsaw scroll

It is a novel idea and possibly good for general woodworking, it's also rather expensive. Not much use for intricate fretwork with internal cuts. Really good to see that Record are now making some stuff back in the UK again, lets hope it continues. :)

    Oh Poly... Cut 3

Claymore's posts are still on the forum for anyone to see (he may have deleted some) he last posted 15th Oct 2021. He was a very valued member here and a regular contributor but he had some very sad times, I miss his posts. :)

    Oh Poly... Cut 3

Probably Brian who went under the name Claymore, A very decent fellow who was dealt a hard blow in his life, when our German shepherd dog passed away he very kindly sent me a piece of work that he had done in acrylics. I think he last posted here in 2021.

    Oh Poly... Cut 3

£43 for a Phospher bronze bush is outrageous IMHO. Hegner machines are superb but the spare part prices are just ridiculous, fortunately they give very little trouble. :)

    Tight or not tight enough

I have been fretworking since I was a young boy using my Dads Treadle machine (over 60years) and I can tell you every single time a blade snaps I absolutely 'jump out of my skin' I think it's natural because it's so sudden and you get a bang! Your original question has been well answered by...

    Hegner Stands

Yes I suppose that is about it, but as you say because they are very reliable I doubt they sell many spares. It's a bit like old British made tools and machinery, I have stuff my grandad bought in the early 1900's still working perfectly well whereas a lot of the far east made stuff today does...

    Hegner Stands

Hegner are certainly well made machines and a pleasure to use but the prices they charge for spare parts and accessories is truly horrendous, I honestly don't know how they justify their spares prices. One instance that I have mentioned before is the simple 'bog' standard on/off switch which you...

    Hegner Stands

Am I imagining things? you seem to have at least six Hegner machines? I have to ask why? Or are you in the business of selling machines? :)

    Beginner patterns

It depends on what you want to do with your saw and what sort of things you wish to cut out. There are lot's of ways of obtaining patterns. One good place to start is Steve Good's 'Scroll saw workshop' Scroll Saw Workshop Catalog There are lot's of Scrollsaw books available offering simple and...

    Vibration

The jury is out on this on whether to use damping such as rubber mounts, mats and things to reduce vibration, with some saying it helps others that it does not. I can only relate my experiences on the subject. When I bought my first powered fretsaw about 38 yrs ago the vibration was dreadful...

    Quick clamp

You can get one from Hegner but they are expensive! https://www.hegner.co.uk/quick-clamp-for-piercework.html I will say that once you have a quick clamp you will not want to be without it. :)
