    Underneath the arches

I think they are brilliant, I have a few of the patterns for some of these and planned to make some when I get time. They look superbly cut and are so effective with the illumination behind! 100% top marks from me! :)

HELP Need a new replacement Scroll saw but tight budget

IMHO the AWFS18 looks to be a very decent saw, I have not tried one but to me it looks like a carbon copy of the Hegner but at a much more reasonable price. I have a Hegner and it is brilliant but you do have to pay a lot for the Hegner name! I would be most interested to hear of your...

HELP Need a new replacement Scroll saw but tight budget

Under the fancy casing it's another cheapo common saw with a Jet name, I would not buy one!

Kindness of the good people in this forum

I would just like to say a big thank you to all the people in this forum for their kindness shown when I recently posted the news that our beloved German Shepherd dog had died suddenly on June 23rd. I would also like to give very special thanks to Brian (Claymore) for his wonderful kindness in...

    Customs Charge on blades

I use the Niqua reverse tooth blades from Hobbies http://www.alwayshobbies.com/tools/hand ... s-for-wood I have been using these for years and I have no problems with them, the last FD blades I bought to try from Mikes workshop were useless they kept snapping near the clamp.

    Shellac

Last time I bought some shellac it was a small bag of shellac flakes and I got it from a local hardware shop, I think that knotting will do the same job for you.

    Semi Mystery Scroll/Fretsaw....

I would recommend reverse tooth blades, IMHO spiral blades are very difficult to use and control as they cut in all directions without turning the work-piece. If you look closely at a spiral blade you will see that it is actually a normal blade that has been twisted.

    Semi Mystery Scroll/Fretsaw....

As Martin states the only purpose of the blower is to keep the cutting line clear, it has no effect on cut quality, before I had an electric fretsaw I used a hand frame and a hobbies treadle machine and the process was to keep blowing (using your mouth!) the sawdust away from the cut and it was...

    Semi Mystery Scroll/Fretsaw....

Have to admit I have never seen one like this, there are lot's of banded saws around that you can see follow one basic design but this one looks quite different in several ways. The blowers on these saws are frankly pretty useless, they are usually a tiny bellows about 1" diameter and the same...

Thanks all for your kind words, I cannot describe what we are going through at the moment, you don't realise how much you miss them until they have gone, I can't get Max out of my mind, everything I do reminds me of him, one of my grandsons came today he is 12 and was in tears, how I wish Max...

    hobby saw conversion

Electronic speed control is only possible retro fitted with a universal or series wound carbon brush type motor, some of the cheaper scroll saws (there are lot's that are the same apart from the brand name) are fitted with induction motors and these cannot be retro speed controlled. it is...
