    First scroll saw

Two things to look for - 1) the most important - quick tension release and 2) quick blade clamp. The quick blade clamp is essential but if your purchase does not have one you can buy one later. The quick tension release is more complex if it's not fitted as standard as it's part of the top arm...

Each to their own, as they say?!

I still have the Hobbies A1 treadle saw bought by my late grandfather when they first came out in 1900, it was used by him, my late father, myself and my grandsons. It still works today just as it did 124 years ago. The plethora of Fret-machines that Hobbies produced until their demise in 1968...

    First scroll saw

Rob, you could not find a better saw to start with, Hegners are quality made saws built to last a lifetime. Often people buy a cheap poorly made and awkward to use saw which often puts them off the hobby for good. If you care to have a look at my website You will find a page covering Hegner...

    Blade insertion

When you insert the blade in the clamp push it down so it makes contact with the clamp screw and is centred on the point of the vee [on the clamp] then pull the blade out very slightly so that it does not touch the clamp screw, then tighten up. What often happens is that when the blade is in...

    "Strange" Hegner Scroll Saw

I agree with Jaco, as soon as I saw it a part of a stapler came to mind. One thing I am 99.99% sure of is that it is not part of the saw nor anything to do with Hegner. It may have been utilised by a previous owner for some reason? The machine is not that old because it has the quick blade...

Scheppach Deco SL Scroll Saw after market blade clamp?

I am not conversant with this saw but it looks like a 'bog standard' blade fixing used on a multitude of economy scroll saws, (many are the same but in different colours and names) so I think that it would be easy to buy blade adaptors to fit so you can use normal plain fretwork blades. With a...

Choosing a scroll-saw. Why pay more? the answer is here.

Have you looked at my website? I have a whole page devoted to the issue of blades comparing pin end and plain blades. There is also more blade information on the "Fretwork help page". the link is in my signature.

    My new Fretwork website.

With one of my other sites (created on Google sites) I just could not get Google to index it even via the Search consule although Bing found the site no problem, The only way a managed to get that one listed was to buy a domain name and point the google address to that.

    My new Fretwork website.

Many thanks everyone for your comments on my website, I think I had the idea and started it back in 2019 but gave up as it seemed impossible with so little info available on the companies. I left it for 4 years then gave it another go. Most of the info on the Hobbies and Handicrafts companies I...

Many thanks Richard. I used to do most of my fretwork with a hand-frame, it's so much better with a powered machine. :)
